UPMC Nuclear Med Technologist (Temporary) in Washington, Pennsylvania

Position Details:

  • Schedule: Daylight starting time between 6:30 and 8:00 AM.

  • Shifts: No holidays, with a few possible Saturday shifts from 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM.

  • Duration: Temporary position lasting approximately 12 weeks.

Purpose: Performs imaging procedures independently, without constant supervision. Executes a variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes.

Responsibilities:

  • Patient and Team Interaction: Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with patients and co-workers, displaying a high level of care, listening, dignity, and respect. Works effectively as a team member within the department and across other departments to expedite patient care efficiently.

  • Patient Communication: Clearly and concisely communicates instructions to patients, explaining procedures to alleviate fears and gain cooperation.

  • Exam Management: Ensures all exams within their area of responsibility are properly coded and tracked through the RIS system. Ensures all exams are networked to ISITE for archiving and interpretation, and all charges are accurately entered for performed exams.

  • Radiopharmaceutical Management: Maintains appropriate records of the receipt, use, and disposal of radiopharmaceuticals.

  • Patient Identification and Protocol Adherence: Properly identifies all patients using two patient identifiers and utilizes universal protocol when performing procedures. Reviews patient history and assesses physician orders, applying specific departmental protocols for optimal data acquisition. Documents patient history in the electronic record as required.

  • Dose Calculation and Recording: Calculates, measures, and records patient dose according to departmental policy and Radiation Safety Guidelines.

  • Nuclear Medicine Proficiency: Competently performs nuclear medicine exams at a high level of proficiency, producing technically optimal results.

  • Quality Control: Performs all quality control checks on imaging and non-imaging equipment to ensure proper performance and functioning.

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology Program or meets NMTCB alternate eligibility criteria.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • ARRT(N) or CNMT registry, or registry eligible (must obtain registry within 12 months of hire).

  • CPR or BLS required (must meet AHA standards, including both didactic and skills demonstration components, within 30 days of hire).

Required Certifications:

  • ARRT Certificate OR Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification (NMTC).

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting.

  • Act 33.

  • Act 34.

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance.
