Insight Global SMART Building Engineer in Washington, District Of Columbia

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • BMS Design: Prepare BMS drawings, sequence operations, and perform system design calculations.

  • Equipment Selection: Assist in selecting equipment for building systems and write detailed reports.

  • Client Support: Help clients with vendor selection and procurement of optimal solutions.

  • Project Meetings: Attend and interface with clients, contractors, and internal teams.

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design teams.

  • Quality Control: Collaborate with the Senior Engineer to manage quality control and resources.

  • Process Development: Develop and maintain up-to-date BMS processes and standards.

  • Trade Participation: Engage in trade organizations and prepare presentations.

  • Staff Management: Manage assigned staff for specific projects as directed by the Senior Engineer.

  • Proposal Writing: Write proposals under the guidance of a Senior Engineer.

Representation: Represent Syska Hennessy Group, interacting effectively with internal and external teams.

Skills and Requirements

Requirements:

  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred. Exceptional candidates with significant experience, especially in managing large integrated BMS/EPMS/DCIM/SCADA systems, may also be considered.

  • Experience: 4-7 years in the Controls and Instrumentation Industry, whether as an Engineer, Consultant, Contractor, or Client Facility Manager.

  • Technical Knowledge:

  • Thorough understanding of HVAC and electrical instrumentation design.

  • Proficiency in building control sequences of operations.

  • Familiarity with building IT/OT infrastructure and low voltage technologies such as security systems, lighting control systems, and fire alarm systems.

  • Insight into smart building technology convergence and low-voltage sub-system integration for IT and parallel OT network infrastructure design.

  • Knowledge of Building Analytical Software platforms to identify anomalies and energy conservation measures.

Skills:

  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.

  • Organization: Excellent organizational skills with the capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Communication: Strong communication skills, with a preference for candidates who have recent industry publications (e.g., presentations, webinars, trade publications).

  • Certification: Preference for candidates who are Registered Professional Engineers (PE).

  • Professional Involvement: Active involvement with professional organizations such as ASHRAE and CABA is a plus.
