The work of The Red House (https://redhouse.georgetown.edu/) , supported by the Baker Trust for Transformational Learning, seeks to shape a new learning paradigm that expands high-impact practices at Georgetown University, confronts systemic injustice, improves wellbeing and healing, while controlling the rising costs of a transformative education.

Job Overview

The Senior Writer and Storyteller at the Red House plays a key role on the Communications team, specifically in helping to identify and craft stories that showcase the diverse and impactful work of the Red House and our partners in a growing innovation ecosystem centered within and extending beyond the University. Thriving in a dynamic and collaborative environment, they support projects that seek to capture and convey the impact of educational innovation at Georgetown through academic, research, and community initiatives shared through narratives aimed to engage diverse audiences.

The Senior Writer and Storyteller helps to craft and execute the most important stories of Red House work and to impact through professional story design, writing, and editing. The context of this work is the Red House’s overall communication strategy - and especially the Red House’s 10-year initiative, the 102 Project, which will include planned convenings and events with University leadership, publications and other multimedia projects focused around the role of higher education in an intergenerational context. The 102 initiative, launched in Fall 2023, will continue through calendar year 2024.

The Senior Writer and Storyteller is responsible for capturing, developing, and sharing content that inspires and excites audiences and partners and reinforces the Red House’s overall brand messages on its most important communication projects. Core duties of this role are intended to increase the effectiveness of communications supporting the Red House’s strategic goals through varied delivery platforms (writing of publicly-facing annual reports, project reports, and speculative papers on emerging ideas, etc.).

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

Reporting to the Director of Strategy and Communication, the Senior Writer and Storyteller works closely with the Editorial Communications Specialist, Visual Communications Specialist and works across projects to collaborate with other Red House team members, including the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Director of the Red House. In addition, the Senior Writer and Storyteller collaborates with internal (at Georgetown University) and external (at other colleges and universities) partners.

This position has been designated as Telework. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Requirements and Qualifications

  • B.A. degree - preference for a Master’s degree

  • 8 to 10 years of professional writing experience and a track record of professionally recognized work

  • An understanding of issues in higher education and some knowledge of the full range of university function

  • Experience in higher education

  • Excellent research skills, excellent writing skills

  • Strong time management skills

  • Strong experience and competency at interviewing, research and editorial synthesis
