Responsibilities Using of automated processes, research skills, and editorial and writing skills to quickly accomplish final products. Performing the full range of indexing functions and prepares written information that is ready for publishing online and in printed publications. Performing work independently and is relied on to conduct necessary research to ensure that information developed is accurate and timely. Following accepted agency publication practices and precedents and adapting them to carry out specific writing and editing assignments Advising others on technical issues related to the Index development process. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify for the Senior Congressional Record Index Specialist (Editor), PG - 0301 - 12 , you must meet the following requirements: Do you posses (1) year of specialized experience at the PG-11 (or equivalent) level or higher? Specialized experience includes: (1) Applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to evaluate the work of others for style, format, and other editorial considerations; AND (2) Reading and analyzing large volumes of data, extracting pertinent information for purposes of creating Index items; AND (3) Collecting and analyzing the necessary information, resolving most problems in accordance with accepted practices and methods used in previous similar work, and adjusting the material to the reading level of the audience. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement (09/18/2024) to be considered. Education Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level. GPO Remote Work Policy: GPO offers a flexible work arrangement in which an employee can work most or all of the time from a different geographic area. Remote workers will be expected to be able to perform job duties on the date of their entrance on duty and/or the date of the telework agreement. Final pay will be determined upon selection with regard to locality pay and location of selectee. This position is not eligible for remote work. Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a background investigation for Suitability. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background check for Suitability. This review could include fingerprints and credit checks, as well as a full field FBI background investigation and tax and bar checks for attorney applicants. The background investigation covers a period of seven to ten years depending on the nature of the position; this process may take 6 weeks or longer.
