Job Description:
Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Resident Engineer (RE) with water/wastewater treatment facility RE experience to join our Program Management/Construction Management (PM/CM) team in Alexandria, VA. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the construction of, upgrades to, wastewater treatment facilities. Scheduling, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) design/construction experience a plus.
The Resident Engineer will oversee the construction of multiple water/wastewater facility upgrades and a team of field and project office staff.
Job Responsibilities:
The RE will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the project contract throughout the construction phase. The RE is expected to proactively manage project issues and risks, participate in developing solutions, and drive execution primarily at the RE/Contractor level in a manner that supports project overall goals.
The RE will also be responsible for the management of their inspection staff including maintenance of proper safety, quality, and technical training; deployment and monitoring their daily reports; and maintenance of redline Contract Documents.
Provide day-to-day management of your inspection staff and oversite of the contractors performing work.
Monitor and report on the Contractor’s construction progress and issues; assess and report on whether the Contractor is properly implementing their approved Health and Safety Plan and Quality Control Plan.
Manage and document the CM’s QMP, providing the Owner with Independent Assurance (IA) inspections. Ensure that our inspection staff is suitably trained and is performing and documenting daily IA inspections of the Contractor’s work, including the inspection of temporary works for conformance with approved submittals.
Manage the Digital Photographic Documentation System. Take, label and log daily photos to record all progress of the Work for the duration of the Project.
Mark-up (redline) and maintain a file of the approved construction drawings throughout the performance of the Construction Contracts, showing approved deviations with respect to the Work from the approved Contract Documents.
Required Skills/Experience:
B.S. degree Engineering or Construction Management.
We are interested in candidates of all levels of experience, including:
Construction Manager, Resident Engineer or Engineer of Record Construction Coordinator with 10+ plus years of relevant experience.
Construction management and Resident Engineer experience is preferred.
Experience in using scheduling platforms and estimating.
Strong communication skills to interface with the Owner and Contractor on multi-discipline projects.
Strong communication and technical writing skills.
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Ability to work on active or potential construction sites including site work that may involve work in underground spaces, above slopes and shafts, over rough terrain, and in remote locations.

The compensation range for this position is between $110,000 to $150,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
