P R O J ECT B AC K G R O UND :

The USAID Africa Trade and Investment (ATI) activity is designed to bolster the U.S. Government’s abilityto boost trade and investment to, from, and within the African continent. The continent-wide program is USAID’s flagship effort in support of the Prosper Africa initiative and will expand and accelerate two-way trade and investment between African nations and the United States.

Driven by market demand, ATI embraces innovative approaches to achieve its goals. ATI is designed as a small, core set of centrally coordinated technical and institutional support activities, and a large, flexible performance-based subcontracting and grants under contract facility designed to support the needs and opportunities that USAID Missions and the private sector identify.

R O LE S P URP O S E :

The Operations & Systems Intern is a short-term position which will be responsible for providing support to the ATI Quality & Systems team. The Intern will support the Team with procurement/grants process support, data input & analytics, targeted research on best practices for partnership development and private sector engagement, and various administrative tasks as assigned (e.g., approvals, reporting, and invoice tracking).

This internship offers a valuable learning opportunity for individuals aspiring to work in the international development sector, particularly in private sector engagement. By supporting procurement and grants processes, conducting targeted research, and managing data analytics, the intern will gain hands-on experience with key operational systems. He/she will also be exposed to best practices in partnership development and private sector engagement, critical components of today's international development strategies. This role provides an immersive environment to understand the intricacies of cross-sector collaboration and the practical skills needed to drive impactful, sustainable development outcomes.

O B J ECTI V ES AND D UTIES

TheOperations & SystemsInternwillworkwiththeSystems Teamtoprovidesupportinthefollowingtaskareas:

  • Maintain the partner network database and complete regular, robust data cleaning exercises to ensure ATI can produce accurate analysis of its partner network (e.g. number of local partners, number of partners focused on a particular region, etc). This includes supporting the maintenance of ATI dashboards.

  • Support the ATI Systems Team in systematizing project-wide templates and resources, including development of new tools, templates, and trackers, such as updated templates for IQCs, TOs, subcontracts by type, modification documents, etc.

  • Supportdevelopmentofmaterialsfor internal and external ATI learning, including ATI staff,newmembersofthePartnerNetwork, & ATI clients. This may include what toexpectfromprocurements, overviewofUSAID/ATIprocurementandgrantsprocess, FAQs, training guides, learning products on best practices for private sector engagement, etc.

  • Supporttheprocurement/grantlifecyclebyperformingsupporttasksasneeded, such as drafting memos, updating award data records, or taking notes during Technical Evaluation Committee meetings.

  • Support the maintenance of administrative records by saving and categorizing in a rational, straightforward hierarchy all documentation on shared file servers and project management systems in accordance with the project’s document saving protocol and norms.

  • Provide event and meeting organization support as needed.

  • Draftandsubmitapprovals, analysis, andreportsfortheSystems Team.

  • Providead-hocoperational and administrativesupport,asassigned.

  • Participateinregularprojectmanagementmeetings.

R E Q UIRED Q UALIFICATI O NS

  • Bachelorsdegreestudentin business,economics,internationaldevelopment, orassociatedfields,withmorethanoneyearofexperienceinprofessionalworkplaces.

  • Proficientcomputerskills,includingMicrosoftOfficeSuite(Word,PowerPoint,andExcel)

  • Excellentwrittenandverbalcommunicationskills.

  • Self-directed, motivated andabletoaccomplish taskswithoutdirect supervision.

  • Based in the DMV area with the ability to work in the ATI US office on occasion

  • Strongdatamanagement, analytics, collection, andvisualizationskills,includinguseofrelevant softwarepackages.

Compensation

The expected pay rate for this position is $22/hour.
