Because the responsibilities of this position will involve access to ITAR/EAR-controlled information, Akin will screen prospective job candidates to be staffed in this role and will only consider U.S. persons for ITAR/EAR compliance purposes. We are currently seeking a Network Engineer in the Information Technology department, reporting to the Network Operations Manager opening.

The role can reside in the Dallas or Washington, DC office with hybrid work capabilities and a s a member of the Information Technology Department’s Network Operations team, the Network Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the firm’s mission-critical network and infrastructure systems are available and properly functioning at all times. The Network Engineer is responsible for installing, configuration, and monitoring of the firm’s voice, video, wireless, LAN, cloud, and WAN networks. The Network Engineer is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s attorneys, advisors and staff, and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement. Above all, the Network Engineer must fulfill the needs of the firm in a manner which is consistent with the Firm’s Core Values. The role involves working closely with various stakeholders to obtain and carry out firm initiatives.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

Systems Administration

  • Managing various large-scale, global, enterprise network topologies including designing, deploying, and maintaining LAN/WAN/WLAN infrastructure and all associated sub-systems including Cisco IOS/NX-OS switches, NetGen firewall security appliances, IPS/IDS, and load balancers.

  • Researches emerging technologies in support of infrastructure efforts and recommend technologies that will foster infrastructure adaptability.

  • Identify manual operational tasks and develop automation to mitigate network issues and repetitive tasks.

  • Assist in the deployment of cloud infrastructure to support cloud migration and delivery of various technology solutions, including both IaaS and PaaS models, using the full suite of Microsoft Azure resources.

  • Hands-on experience managing modern technology infrastructure, including SD-WAN, SASE, ACI, and cloud architectures.

  • Manage and implement full spectrum of network and cloud-specific security models in conjunction with Information Security and Compliance teams.

  • Contribute to written material, including Knowledge Base articles, design documents, test plans, and other material as needed. Experience with MS Visio is a plus.

  • Perform risk assessments and security audits, report findings, and take corrective actions.

    Collaboration & Customer Service

  • Assist the Network Operations team to provide third-level support for assigned systems and applications.

  • Assist as needed in the day-to-day maintenance of the systems supported by the Network Operations team.

  • Collaborate with groups on voice, video, network and security-based projects.

  • Handle tickets escalated from the Help Desk in a timely manner.

  • Work extended hours and be on-call, as assigned.

    Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (BS in Computer Science or equivalent preferred); substantial related work-experience may substitute

  • A minimum of four years’ experience as a network engineer

  • Networking routing and switching certifications preferred. CCNA or equivalent certification preferred

  • Strong service orientation and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, management, and outside business partners

  • Demonstrated focus on continuous improvement and innovation

  • Hands-on experience with implementation and administration of Network Access Control (NAC) solutions such as Forescout or Cisco ISE

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems. Propose effective solutions, understand and apply business vision/direction

  • Working knowledge of ITIL Framework

  • Possess a deep understanding of various network protocols and technologies such as OSPF, BGP, VRF, MPLS, EIGRP, VxLAN, OTV, Packet capturing tools, TCP/IP, and QoS

  • Experience with any four or more of the following technologies:

  • Cisco IOS / Nexus

  • Enterprise wireless networks

  • Enterprise firewalls

  • Telephony systems such as Cisco Unified Communications Manager or other UCaaS solutions

  • Enterprise monitoring platforms such as SolarWinds

  • Load balancers such as Citrix NetScaler or F5

  • IPS/IDS

  • SEIM

  • VPN / SSE / SD-WAN

  • Cloud (Azure, AWS, Google, etc.)

  • Proven ability to handle multiple priorities and adjust to changing priorities in a professional manner

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organization skills with an exceptional attention to detail

  • Willingness and ability to assume new tasks and responsibilities

  • Proven ability to maintain and update technical knowledge and skills

  • Ability to work well under pressure, in a fast paced environment to facilitate solutions and meet deadlines and milestones for projects assigned

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain high ethical standards and strict confidentiality of all information on the network
