Meta Lead Counsel, Security Legal in Washington, District Of Columbia

Summary:

We are seeking a lead counsel to work on Meta’s Central Security Legal Team, with a global remit to support data disclosure, security, safety, and integrity equities worldwide. This is a great opportunity to join a team that works on novel issues in an exciting environment.

Required Skills:

Lead Counsel, Security Legal Responsibilities:

  1. Provide advice and support the processing of legal requests for user data, and manage the litigation of matters implicating user data disclosure in criminal investigations and civil matters

  2. Identify and advise business and product partners on legal obligations globally relating to data disclosure and platform safety and integrity, including child safety and other serious crimes

  3. Develop and draft legal and operational policies around the protection and disclosure of user data

  4. Work closely and creatively with cross-functional teams, including Legal, Policy, Communications, Engineering, and Business Operations in reviewing and addressing governmental regulations, agency guidelines, policies, including government requests for user data

  5. Manage effective relationships with key government agencies, regulators, and law enforcement agencies, in close collaboration with internal cross-functional teams

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent)

  2. Active membership in at least one US state bar and eligibility to obtain registered in-house counsel status (if required by the State Bar in the assigned work location)

  3. 5+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney, including at a law firm and/or in-house or government experience

  4. Demonstrate business judgment and client counseling skills

  5. Effective communication skills

  6. Substantial experience with U.S. law, including the Stored Communications Act, Wiretap Act, Pen Register/Trap and Trace Statute

  7. Direct experience working with U.S. or international law enforcement authorities

  1. Experience as in-house or government counsel providing guidance related to law enforcement, civil, or third party user data requests

  2. Experience managing and leading cross-functional efforts, and prioritizing competing project timelines

  3. Experience analyzing and reviewing emerging regulations relating to technology companies, including content moderation and safety

  4. Experience drafting legislation and/or legal policies for large or complex organizations

  5. Experience in criminal justice, with a firm grasp of the regulatory landscape in the United States, and awareness of global trends impacting internet service and social media providers

  6. Experience working effectively with large multi-stakeholder cross-functional teams across time zones

  7. Experience in legal judgment and executing quickly and under tight time constraints, solid communications skills and being proactive, collaborative, and diligent

Public Compensation:

$167,000/year to $233,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
