The Laboratory Director oversees operational activities in a research laboratory and the laboratory team. They provide oversight and management of all laboratory and testing services, functions, equipment, and vendor relations for the laboratory. S/he will also work with University staff to ensure appropriate monitoring, calibration, maintenance, and disposal of equipment following standard laboratory procedures and as required by the study sponsor. Maintaining updated laboratory study protocols, additional duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Implement and maintain training and updates to study team members as needed.

  • Oversee laboratory operations to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality control of the laboratory.

  • Ensure that all laboratory team members and laboratory activities conform to health and safety protections as determined by the University Environmental Health and Safety Office.

  • Manage laboratory operations and administration, overseeing general administration duties when needed.

Work InteractionsThis position reports directly to the MACS-WIHS Combined Cohort Study (MWCCS) Principal Investigator, and works closely with the Study Project Director, clinical and management team.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • BS in physical or biological sciences; Masters Degree in the physical or biological sciences preferred

  • 5+ years of technical/administrative experience in laboratory operations.

  • Experience coordinating research or lab activities

Preferred Requirements and Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines

  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal & written)

  • Experience with team management and delegation of tasks

  • Excellent time management, organization skills with the ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports

  • Willingness to perform all the functions within the laboratory, including sample processing and shipping, alongside the laboratory technician

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$54,616.00 - $100,493.33

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
