BAE Systems is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to support our work as a prime contractor on high-profile U.S. Navy facility development, recapitalization, and construction projects. This position is responsible for conceptual development, code compliance reviews, and ensuring SSP specific requirements are incorporated into the electrical portion of conceptual, preliminary and final design documentation. This includes both BAE conceptual designs and designs created but other architectural engineering firm.

About the program

Our organization has supported the U.S. Navy s Strategic Systems Program (SSP) continually since the program s inception in the 1950s. SSP developed the first sea-based, underwater-launched Strategic Weapon System (SWS), a defense system that is truly critical to our national security. For more than six decades, SSP has maintained and upgraded this weapon system, and we have been there every step of the way. The sea-based SWS is the ultimate stealthy weapon system and as the first leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. With over 70% of our nation s nuclear arsenal its importance to maintaining world peace cannot be overstated. The development of Columbia, the most advanced nuclear-powered, nuclear-armed submarine ever designed, as well the next D5LE2 weapon system is under way and will begin to be rolled out over the next decade. The Navy expects this system to be operational through 2084, meaning the program will have a total life span of more than 120 years. This is a truly unique program and BAE Systems employees on this program understand they are part of an important legacy.

Position Description and Responsibilities :

BAE Systems is seeking an experienced senior electrical to support our work as a prime contractor on high-profile U.S Navy weapon systems. This senior electrical will support the Navy Program Manager responsible for Strategic Systems Planning (SSP) Facilities Acquisition at TRIDENT Submarine Bases, primarily at Kings Bay, Georgia and Bangor, Washington, in developing the assigned projects from concept to operation stage. This senior position is responsible for developing conceptual single line diagrams, Bill of Materials, and new electrical system integration into the existing electrical power system. The selected candidate will provide technical peer reviews of architectural/engineering design submittals, support the develop of Facilities Design Criteria & Facilities Evaluation Testing Criteria, and perform constructability reviews of construction design documentation. Candidate is also responsible to conduct/prepare engineering study reports and will make recommendations to solve facilities issues.

The senior engineer is responsible for developing comprehensive MILCON documentation and the electrical portion of preliminary construction cost estimates.

This position will require the candidate to provide electrical system guidance associated with specific SSP facility requirements for construction documentation to ensure the constructed facility performs the necessary function of mission. A limited amount of travel to off-site locations could be required.

Position may require generating a moderate amount of correspondence to internal/external customers, other BAE sector government property administrators, and other architectural/engineering personnel. Preparation of presentations for internal/external peers, and customers.

Candidate will also be required to manage and/or support other disciple tasks as needed. Must also work with and support corporate Safety, Health, Environment (SHE) personnel to maintain a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety objectives and policies.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Electrical Engineer Degree from an ABET Accredited program

  • Professional work experience with electrical power systems including medium and low voltage systems, lighting design, lightning protection systems, emergency power systems, generators, transformers, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), power converters

  • Solidly Grounded and Ungrounded Power Systems

  • Experience in the development of Load Flow Analysis, Short Circuit Studies, & Load Calculations

  • At least 6 years of related professional work experience

  • Must be proficient with MS Office Suite programs including Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams

  • Desire to attain a Professional Engineer License once in the position

Technical Knowledge and Proficiency

  • Professional knowledge of NPFA NEC

  • Knowledge of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS)

  • Experience in the design, development or implementation of MILCON facilities programs

  • Knowledge of NAVSEA OP5 and Electrical requirements for Ordnance facilities

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, and/or MicroStation Software packages

  • Knowledge of ETAP or SKM Software

Communication

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

  • Good writing skills to document facility requirements and make the necessary reports and correspondence

Professionalism

  • Excellent interpersonal skills used when interfacing, coordinating, and negotiating with colleagues, auditors, customers and vendors

  • Understanding of project managerial relationships and operations

  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment and make sound decisions while complying with policies, procedures, appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws and regulations

  • Good planning, time management and organization skills

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Professional Engineer License

  • Active Secret Clearance

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $112420 - $191070

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
