Summary This position is part of the Office of Nuclear Energy - Headquarters, Department of Energy. As a Deputy Chief of Staff, you will work directly with and supports the Chief of Staff to execute the Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy's (ASNE) agenda and priorities. Responsibilities As a Deputy Chief of Staff, you will: Prepare Congressional testimony, speeches, talking points, briefing materials, presentations, and position papers. Coordinate external affairs activities including public affairs and stakeholder engagement efforts to promote and further Nuclear Energy (NE's) mission, vision, and identity. Outline and define work to be accomplished by the NE senior advisors and leadership team to accomplish NE-1 priorities. Provide review and analysis on Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy (ASNE) operational and policy issues in collaboration with senior advisors and the NE leadership team. Outline and present work from ASNE to subordinate supervisors and directors; exercises full-delegated authority to speak for and represent the ASNE on clearly defined subjects, specifically those pertaining to daily and long-range work, goals, and objectives of the ASNE Work directly with the ASNE or the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary (PDAS) in interfacing with internal and external organizations Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-14 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-13 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 2 OF THE 3 of the following: Reviewing Congressional testimony, speeches, talking points, briefing materials, presentations, and position papers on program goals and initiatives or that delineate specific Nuclear Energy (NE) domestic and international program goals. Working with senior advisors on the review and analysis on Assistant Secretary operational and policy issues. Assisting in outlining work priorities; prepares schedules for completion of work; and delivers finished products for senior advisors and leadership team. GS-15 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-14 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 3 OF THE 4 of the following: Drafting Congressional testimony, speeches, talking points, briefing materials, presentations, and position papers on program goals and initiatives or that delineate specific nuclear energy domestic and international program goals. Outlining work priorities; prepares schedules for completion of work; and delivers finished products for senior advisors and leadership team. Coordinating leadership teams in response to Presidential, Secretarial, and other DOE initiatives to represent the AS in meetings and at events on prescribed issues and exercises. Overseeing the review and analysis on Assistant Secretary operational and policy issues "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
