Georgetown Univerisity Communications and Marketing Manager for Graduate Student Communications - Office of Strategic Communications in Washington, District Of Columbia

Requirements

Georgetown University’s Office of Strategic Communications (http://publicaffairs.georgetown.edu/communications/) provides strategic communications consultation, media relations strategy, and expertise and creative services to promote Georgetown officials and the university to internal and external constituencies. Our office assists with publicity efforts and connects the media with a community of scholars for expert opinion. We draft press releases and statements, media advisories, fact sheets, op-eds and other materials to publicize news from faculty research and/or the university. We promote stories to reporters and distribute information to news organizations in Washington, DC, and throughout the world.

The Communications and Marketing Manager joins the Office of Strategic Communications (OCOMM) as a manager of Graduate School (GSAS) and graduate student communications. This role will be laser-focused on telling the graduate student experience at Georgetown, and leverage the expertise of functions within the central communications office to develop and execute the overall communications planning and strategy for the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences as well as serving in a cross-functional role linking graduate students across the university. Overseeing the overall Graduate School content/editorial calendar, aggregating work from different departments and amplifying across social media and web platforms, additional duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to communications strategies in support of current GSAS goals and objectives, generating increased visibility and awareness of the unique contributions of our graduate students and the opportunities that exist as a graduate student at Georgetown both inside and outside the classroom.

  • Manage internal communications including newsletter management, as well as drafting, editing, and sending emails to graduate school cohorts in coordination with other communications leads across the University.

  • Handle social media management, media relations, and general content creation in coordination with different Graduate School departments and offices across the University.

  • Chair the graduate school social media group, working together to determine promotional and editorial content sharing.

Work Interactions

This position reports to the Senior Director for Strategic Communications and serves as a member of the Office of Communications and GSAS central dean’s office team. The role will also provide general support for communications efforts related to a suite of interdisciplinary programs and will work with communicators across the University related to graduate student programs.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related fields

  • 3-5 years of relevant communications experience

  • Excellent organizational and management skills

  • Excellent written skills, including email or marketing correspondences.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across organizational units to ensure consistency in communications

  • Experience working with social media platforms

  • Familiarity with desktop publishing and web development software (Adobe products, Microsoft Publisher, WordPress, etc.)

  • Exceptional judgment in messaging and communication tactics

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$54,616.00 - $100,493.33

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
