Summary The Smithsonian Institution (SI) is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Office of Under Secretary for Finance and Administration (OUSFA), in the Administrative Service Group (ASG). The Office of Under Secretary for Finance and Administration (OUSFA) manages SI’s physical, fiscal, and human resources. More than one selection may be made from this announcement. Responsibilities The Administrative Officer is responsible for finance, budget, personnel, timekeeping, property, procurement, travel and facilities management functions. In this position, you will: Manages multiple Federal, Trust, Grant, Gift, and Discretionary funds. Serves as the primary contact for staff in providing technical advice in support of financial systems such as entry of financial data into the Smithsonian Institution (SI) official accounting system and the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. Incumbent independently gathers documents for procurement packages; including contacting vendors to obtain necessary bids, verifying the availability of funds to cover obligations, and selecting vendors to ensure the best possible quality, price, and delivery of items and services. As the servicing unit’s Human Resources Liaison, serves as confidential advisor on all personnel matters ensuring that they are handled in the strictest of confidence. Qualifications GS-12 Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as carrying out administrative functions for an office or organization related to budget activities, procurement, and personnel actions. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week. Education There is no education substitution for specialized experience. Additional Information This position is not included in the bargaining unit.
