DISCOVER, or Development of Investigators Supporting Community Outreach and Value of Engagement in health disparities Research, is a Center of Excellence funded by the National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities.
The Administrative Coordinator supports the day-to-day activities of DISCOVER and works closely with DISCOVER leadership to facilitate the administrative and communication structures. The DISCOVER Coordinator will support the DISCOVER core leads (Administration, Investigator Development, Community Engagement and Dissemination) in coordinating efforts across the cores. They will support strategic communication and outreach to DISCOVER team members and advisory board members (external advisory board, internal advisory board, and community advisory board), scheduling and planning meetings, organizing notes, and following up actions from meetings. The primary responsibilities of the DISCOVER Administrative Coordinator include providing administrative, communication, and logistic support. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
Draft and disseminate communication about DISCOVER activities and events, supporting the day-to-day organization and coordination across the DISCOVER Cores (administration, investigator development, and community engagement and dissemination).
Schedule meetings, draft and distribute agendas, write meeting minutes, and track workflow progress with clear delineation of action items and the individuals responsible.
Foster an inclusive environment for community members engaged in DISCOVER’s Community Advisory Board and DISCOVER activities in the Washington DC area, coordinating workshops/programs and sending reminders/follow-up emails.
Provide general office support including but not limited to meeting and event coordination (room reservations, managing RSVPs, creating and sending advertisements), and workshop material preparation.
Communicate with DISCOVER leadership, co-investigators, and early career investigators about activities, scheduling and following up on tasks for training activities.
Assist DISCOVER leadership with writing, editing, and disseminating DISCOVER funding announcements to recruit prospective DISCOVER Investigator applications, processing submitted applications and assisting in coordinating reviews.
Track outcomes of investigators who are supported through DISCOVER, providing administrative and coordination support to the DISCOVER’s leadership and advisory boards.
Communicate with DISCOVER’s leadership and advisory boards via email to aid in orientation of meetings
Compile existing resources, information, and resources related to DISCOVER’s goals, maintaining the DISCOVER website.
Process payments for DISCOVER-related administrative purchases through the Georgetown Management System (GMS) as applicable.
Assist DISCOVER leadership in writing and editing progress reports to submit quarterly to DISCOVER boards and annually to funding agency.
Work Interactions
The DISCOVER Administrative Coordinator works with the DISCOVER executive leadership and core co-leads (faculty within GUMC). The Coordinator will also work with early career faculty and postdoctoral fellows who are interested and become engaged in DISCOVER activities for training in health disparities research and community outreach and engagement. The Coordinator will work with nationally-recognized experts and community leaders in health disparities research who serve on the External Advisory Board, Internal Advisory Board, and Community Advisory Board.
Requirements and Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of administrative experience OR an Associate’s degree with a minimum of four years of administrative coordination experience
Previous experience in an academic environment is preferred
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must have good attention to detail
Ability to deal effectively and professionally with a variety of persons
Demonstrated time management skills and ability to multitask
Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Drive programs (google documents, google sheets)
Must have the ability to take initiative and work independently to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$21.16 - $35.29
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
