Georgetown Univerisity Academic Coordinator - Women’s Basketball Team in Washington, District Of Columbia

Requirements

Consistent with the Division of Student Affairs, the Academic Resource Center, and the Department of Athletics missions’ commitments to the comprehensive development of the student, the Academic Coordinator will provide superior academic, personal, and professional guidance to student-athletes on the Women’s Basketball team, to include, but not limited to:

  • Schedule classes, major selection, and required progression for enrollment/graduation to ensure students are making satisfactory progress towards their degree.

  • Monitor academic progress for initial eligibility, transfer eligibility, continued eligibility, and graduation requirements.

  • Coordinate travel letter distribution, produce academic grade reports, monitor study hall hours, schedule student-athlete development/life skills workshops, oversee development of at-risk student-athletes, and communicate frequently with coaching staff and necessary administrators.

  • Assist in the recruitment process of potential student-athletes while keeping compliant with any and all current or future changes in NCAA, Big East Conference, and Georgetown University rules, policies and requirements.

Work Interactions

The Coordinator will be a member of a professional staff of 12 under the Academic Resource Center. The Coordinator reports to the Director and actively engages in meetings with the Women’s Basketball staff to ensure that the coaching staff is apprised of the student-athletes’ academic status. The Coordinator has the responsibility of advising student-athletes and providing the appropriate assistance in prescribing learning strategies that offer academic support to the Women’s Basketball team. The Coordinator interacts with staff in the Academic Resource Center, Athletics, Deans’ offices, Registrar’s Office and faculty, just to name a few.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree

  • A minimum of three years’ professional experience in counseling, advising, or student personnel development in a higher education setting

  • Experienced with culturally and academically diverse populations of students

  • Ability to counsel and direct students to appropriate services on campus

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Requirements and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of NCAA rules pertaining to academic performance (The NCAA changes/updates rules every year so this education is a needed to be updated on a yearly basis)

  • Knowledge of academic expectations of major research university and challenges of Division I athletics

  • Understanding of college student development theory and theories pertaining to group dynamics

  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and prescribe and practice ethical behavior

  • Computer knowledge

  • Appreciation of Jesuit culture and values

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$44,022.00 - $73,406.80

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
