The Microsoft Health Futures Biomedical Signal Processing team is looking for a Principal Software Development Engineer who is passionate about medical imaging raw data, digital signal processing, open data standards, code generation, and scalable systems for data preparation, transmission, and processing.
Health Futures is a Research and Incubation team working at the intersection of computer science, signal processing, machine learning, and biomedicine. We are a global and diverse team of engineers, scientists and medical doctors who are working on next-generation signal processing tools and methods for health and life sciences. We offer a unique and vibrant environment that features innovative academic research, high-performance software development, and real-world delivery, with close feedback loops and rapid iterations among all three, much like a lean startup.
Our team has a keen interest in raw instrument signals from medical devices. Our mission is to operationalize those signals, transmit them, and process them at scale. To pursue this mission, we develop new data standards, code generation tools, generative artificial intelligence (AI), and signal processing frameworks.
We are looking for an experienced Principal Software Development Engineer who is passionate about data standards, code generation, and signal processing. The candidate should be very comfortable with multiple programming languages and excited to leverage low level data structure skills and computer science to empower the signal processing community to advance novel methods. Our desired candidate has the skills to independently develop the data processing tools that will feed the future of generative AI with the low-level instrument signals needed to develop next generation healthcare tools.

Responsibilities
In this role you will collaborate with a team of leading scientists, engineers, and biomedical practitioners to:
Lead efforts and discussions for the architecture of prototypes, solutions and products.
Lead efforts to develop open data standards and code generation tools for open data standard.
Contribute to the development of distributed signal processing tools and frameworks.
Lead our efforts to contribute to the development of open-source signal processing tools.
Expand collaborative relationships with product or business group leaders inside or outside Microsoft as a world expert and provide expertise or technology to them. Contribute to product or business group decisions at a strategic level by sharing input and expertise.
Take initiative and participate in activities such as technology transfers attempts, standards organizations, filing patents, authoring white papers, developing or maintaining tools/services for internal Microsoft use, or consulting for product or business groups.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
2+ years of experience with software development for imaging reconstruction.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree or equivalent in computer science or related field.
3+ years of hands-on experience working with raw instrument data.
Proficiency with C++, Python, Matlab, and Go.
Proven track record of contributing to the development of open raw data standards.
Experience working with both vendor specific and open community raw data formats.
Proven track record contributing to scalable signal processing frameworks.
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
