We are seeking a high-judgement, agile, data-driven and highly motivated economic research professional. You will be responsible for generating public facing reports telling compelling narratives around AWS’ economic impact through AIML infrastructure, along with supporting original research on the downstream effects of cloud computing and AI adoption, including hyper-localized surveys, and energy-related research.
We are looking for someone who can be both a poet and an engineer, has experience with financial and/or accounting datasets, economic impact, fiscal analysis, and infrastructure and/or economic development. If you like doing things that have never been done before, have a rigorous quantitative background, and prefer Jazz to classical music, this role might be the perfect fit for you.
Key job responsibilities
Generate our flagship, public-facing Economic Impact Studies on a global scale
Support infrastructure planning and incentive negotiations with ad hoc economic, fiscal, labor and market research
Establish and maintain operating and business metrics to evaluate economic, social, and environmental impact in various regions
Analyze and extract relevant information from both structured and unstructured data to help optimize and scale up key processes.
Engage with internal and external stakeholders to understand, validate, and frame measures of AWS investment and impact, and to align upon appropriate benchmarks and proxies when needed with Legal, Finance, Tax, Compliance, and Investor Relations teams
Present summaries of financial and business data insights to top leadership, create FAQ, occasionally travel to present research and support local public policy and public relations stakeholders
Own the development and impact of an actionable body of research in at least one of the following verticals: energy, renewable energy, hyper-localized socioeconomic impact, AIML downstream effects
A day in the life
You will work closely with finance, infrastructure, energy, and business development teams, as well as AWS Public Policy,- Investor Relations, Public Relations, Marketing and Sales. With AWS infrastructure as your main customer, you will gain great exposure to AWS’ business and function in a cross-function collaboration environment. This role is ideal for someone with curiosity, attention to detail, strong data skills, and interest in applying those skills in the area between finance and economics to drive high-impact business applications.

AWS Economic Development is a part of the AWS Global Public Policy organization and we work seamlessly with our public policy teammates, internal customers, and our colleagues from across Amazon to realize the AWS global expansion strategy and build collaborative partnerships in our communities.

Basic Qualifications
12+ years of experience in economics, infrastructure development, real estate development, financial analysis, or investor relations
Demonstrable experience using data and metrics to generate actionable insights that can be immediately leveraged by both public and private institutions, and both internal and external customers
Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership
Existing portfolio of research and publications in and outside of academic journals, pertaining to economics, public policy, infrastructure, energy, social impact, or sustainability
Global professional experience
MA degree in economics, public policy, finance, or business
Preferred Qualifications
15+ years of experience in economics, infrastructure development, real estate development, financial analysis, or investor relations
Proficiency in Excel
Experience with pilot design, survey design, and globally scaled projects
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent stakeholder management skills
Proven track record in producing high quality research in finance, economics, or infrastructure
Demonstrated capacity to adapt to stakeholder needs and data constraints while insisting on the highest standards
Academic, business or long-form media publications related to economic impact, power distribution, ESG and SDG goals, cloud computing, and/or digital transformation
Self-starter with proven track record of successfully working with a wide array of functional groups across organizations and culture.
Proficiency in Data Visualization/Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau, QuickSight
Proficiency in one or more statistical programming languages
Competency identifying and synthesizing information from a broad-range of public data-sources
Demonstrable track record driving economic development and/or environmental sustainability initiatives
PhD degree in economics, public policy, finance, business, data operations, or related fields

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $131,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $245,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
