City of Warwick Operator I in Warwick, Rhode Island

Performs all operational tasks related to the daily operation of the wastewater treatment facility. Makes designated rounds of plant and stations to ensure that all equipment is operating properly. Takes meter readings, makes process adjustments, and completes housekeeping duties. ? Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of wastewater, sludge and effluent. ? Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels. ? Reviews data and trend changes on a computerized monitoring system. ? Enters data into PC and updating daily log book. ? Observes variations in operating conditions, interpreting meter and gauge readings, and tests results to determine processing requirements. ? Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control. ? Starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes. ? Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge readings. ? Extracts samples for routine laboratory tests and analysis. ? Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties of all buildings. ? Assists in major maintenance and grounds-keeping. ? Operates and maintaining power generating equipment and sludge equipment. ? Operates vehicles. ? Prepares batches of chemicals and operates all sludge processing and dewatering equipment. ? Makes designated rounds of plant and stations to ensure that all equipment is operating properly. ? Performs related work as required. ? Position will involve shift work. Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and one year of related experience; or a substantially equivalent combination of education and experience. Licenses or Certifications Required: Must possess a Grade 1 Operator License issued by the State of RI, or acquire one within one year of appointment, and maintain license as a condition of employment. Must also possess and maintain a state issued drivers license as a condition of employment.
