Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office three times per week or other frequency dictated by the business.

The Role

Are you interested in a great opportunity to lead sustainability efforts in future automotive materials? In this position, you will promote GM's values and consider the customer needs in every material selection! The Sustainable Materials Engineer will possess a broad technical understanding of sustainable materials combined with creative and strategic thinking. We are looking for a candidate with passion for sustainability, technology, and a desire to continuously learn new things!

What You’ll Do

• Lead advanced sustainability innovation projects for textile and polymer materials and components

• Assist in the development of new sustainable materials and future strategies

• Support efforts related to carbon footprint and claims tracking for materials and part processes

• Collaborate regularly with design engineers, creative design, external suppliers, purchasing, and other materials engineers to achieve company sustainability targets

• Investigate new sustainable materials technology and new supplier processes

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Material Science, Metallurgy, Sustainability, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental, or other related Engineering Degree

• 5+ years of materials engineering or other relevant engineering experience

• Strong analytical skills for data analysis, project management, and problem-solving

• High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively within a team environment

• Persuasive communication and presentation skills

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

• 3+ years of sustainability or sustainable materials experience

• Masters Degree or other advanced certifications

• Experience mentoring and coaching other engineers and professionals
