All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in this job description and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in box 3 & 4, page 1. This work order is for qualified people perform the duties related to harvesting produce in an apple orchard, as well as the harvesting of winter squash, gourds and pumpkins. Workers must be able and willing to work in varied weather conditions including hot, humid summer days during harvest as high as 90 degrees with damp mornings. Workers must be able to handle and climb a 20-foot ladder repetitively while carrying an apple picking bucket which is harnessed over the workers shoulders. Other duties may include picking rocks to prepare soil for planting, training and pruning apple trees, as well as other farm related duties as the need arises. When harvesting apples, productivity must be at least 60 1-1/8-bushel boxes per 7 hours worked with no more than 4% bruising for fresh market. Workers must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds on a frequent basis. In addition, workers may be asked to drive tractor, pick up brush from orchard floor, repair broken bins, and plant and water trees. Also, it may be necessary for workers to drive trucks to remove apple bins from the outlying orchards at harvest time. Workers will operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (whether on or off farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmer's fields); and/or transport workers to the grocery store, bank, or laundry facilities on an as-needed basis. Those that are requested to drive will be required to possess a valid drivers license; no worker will be rejected for not having a driver's license. The employer will provide 1 day of training and allow 2 days of work for the workers to satisfactorily perform duties described in this job description. Employer will furnish all tools and equipment required at no cost to workers. Workers may be required to work 8 hours shift between the hours of 7:00am - 7:00pm from Monday through Saturday. Workers get a 30-minute Lunch break which is staggered between 11am - 1pm as decided by the workers. The workers will return to work after their 30 minutes are up. The beginning and ending times will vary depending on the weather and Orchard conditions. Workers must be able to take direction in simple English.
