Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located in the Galveston OPS Division Project Operations Branch Houston Project Office located in Wallisville, TX Responsibilities Make frequent periodic inspection, and as required, test operates equipment at the installation to determine condition and need for cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, replacement of parts or other repairs. Serve as Lock Operator performing all the duties of that position. Make periodic inspections of buildings, structures, and grounds to determine condition and need for repair or preventive maintenance. This involves necessary carpenter work, plumbing, and painting to maintain and repair building grounds. Inspect traffic movement through the waterways to ensure compliance with marine and navigation regulations such as proper mooring clusters, etc. Reports violations which cannot be resolved to team leader or supervisor, for further action. In the absence of Lockmaster or Assistant Lockmaster, inspects major repairs to operating equipment, structures, and facilities which are accomplished under contract. Groundwork involves planting vegetation, watering and caring for grassed areas, grading, and maintaining access roads, placing shell surface when necessary. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Lock and Dam Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common tasks including repairs and overhauls to equipment and systems associated with lock structure featuring electrical/mechanical controls; inspect, service, maintain, and repair a variety of other equipment such as gasoline engines, boat motors, chain saws, lawn mowing equipment, pumps, etc.; perform carpentry, plumbing or painting to maintain grounds. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: The position requires extensive walking, climbing of steps and ladders, lifting, and carrying heavy tools and equipment weighing up to 60 lbs. Requires frequent bending, reaching, and stretching, and working in cramped or awkward positions. Working Conditions: Works both inside and outside. Outside work is performed in all types of weather. Summer months are high in temperature and humidity. Danger of falls while working above grounds and danger of drowning while working over water. Subject to strains and injury from lifting heavy tools and material and when working in awkward positions. Subject to cuts and abrasions from use of hand tools in confined places. Works in damp places. Approved protective clothing and safety devices will be furnished as prescribed by General Safety Requirements and other applicable policies and procedures to provide the most adequate protection available against any hazardous conditions encountered. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
