Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The Walla Walla District US Army Corps of Engineers is comprised of motivated and talented employees providing the very best engineering services for communities in the Pacific Northwest. Responsibilities Responsible for continued operation of the satellite telemetry equipment used for the collection of hydrologic data. Install, program, and maintain the Geo-Stationary Operational Environmental Satellite Data Collection System (GOES/DCS) units for water level and Total Dissolved Gas gaging network. Responsible for the state-of-the-art station installation, including site location, GPS antenna installation, wireless telemetry, and lightning and power surge protection. Perform reconnaissance missions to determine best location for gages and data collection platforms and install gages and/or radar gages. Utilizes a laptop computer to program and perform repairs on the Data Collection Platforms (DCPs), check DCP gages from a remote site, and monitor the gages to ensure proper operation. Coordinate of the maintenance, repair, and purchase of equipment to meet evolving mission. Assist District limnologist with periodic collection of water and sediment samples, as well as helping with subsequent data analysis and report writing. GS-7 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) gathering hydrologic/water samples for analysis; AND (2) gathering data from hydrologic gages. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-6). GS-8 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) gathering hydrologic/water samples for analysis; (2) gathering data from hydrologic gages; (3) minor repairs and/or installation of gages. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-7). GS-9 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) gathering hydrologic/water samples for analysis; (2) gathering data from hydrologic gages; (3) repair and/or installation of gages; AND (4) Program Geo-Stationary Operational Environmental Satellite Data Collection System (GOES/DCS). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-8). GS-10 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) gathering hydrologic/water samples for analysis; (2) gathering data from hydrologic gages; (3) repair and/or installation of gages; (4) Program Geo-Stationary Operational Environmental Satellite Data Collection System (GOES/DCS); AND(5) analyses of hydrologic samples and recommends corrective actions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-9). GS-11 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) gathering hydrologic/water samples for analysis; (2) gathering data from hydrologic gages; (3) repair and/or installation of gages; (4) Program Geo-Stationary Operational Environmental Satellite Data Collection System (GOES/DCS); (5) analyses of hydrologic samples and recommends corrective actions; AND (6) identify problems and recommend solution to both data and gages. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
