SUMMARY
The SRO Trainee will be assigned to Licensed Operator Training to obtain a Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) License. Upon receipt of a license, personnel will be assigned to rotating shift assignments in the Operations Department or as needed by department.
EDUCATION
High School/GED or equivalent (Required)
Other: The education and experience requirements for the Direct SRO candidate are established by the Guideline for Initial Training and Qualifications for Licensed Operators found in ACAD 10-01. (Required)
EXPERIENCE
0 - 2 Years All candidates should spend at least six (6) months at the facility for which the license is being sought to comply with ACAD 10-01. Eligible candidates for Senior Reactor Operator fall into four general categories. (Required)
0 - 2 Years with equivalent experience as licensed reactor operators at other commercial or military reactors (exp. at other large-scale reactors may also qualify). OR (Required)
0 - 2 Years with engineering degree or the equivalent and who have had experience as plant staff engineers (anyone filling a position that places that individual in the training population of the Engineering Support Personnel accredited training program) OR (Required)
0 - 2 Years with engineering degrees or the equivalent and who have held responsible positions as line managers or supervisors or as non-licensed operators at commercial nuclear plants. OR (Required)
0 - 2 Years as senior reactor operator certified instructor with training & evaluation of licensed operators at commercial nuclear plants. Maintain skills through training, incl. licensed operator training, in-plant activities, & appropriate time on the simulator. (Required)
LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS
General Employee Training 1, 2, 3 and 4 (including respirator) (Required)
Texas Driver’s license (Required)
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
SRO - TRAINEE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participates in an initial Licensed Operator Training Class as an Instant (Direct) SRO Trainee.
Completes all requirements to obtain a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) SRO License.
Demonstrates understanding of the concepts, philosophy, and responsibilities with respect to reactivity management and reactor core safety.
Demonstrates knowledge of systems and components of controls over which operators have responsibility and control.
Performs "On-The-Job" training as appropriate to role and successfully completes required continuing training.
Maintains all required position qualifications.
TEAMWORK - CONTROL ROOM SHIFT TEAM:
Effectively controls and coordinates activities and serves as an effective member of the control room shift team.
Communicates effectively with team members and constructively manages conflict within the control room shift team and with other plant personnel.
Anticipates and recognizes error-likely situations and effectively addresses concerns with those involved.
Asks questions to obtain needed information to perform the tasks of the job.
Follows and supports command, control, and leadership directives and is committed to achieve team and station goals.
Engages in self-critique of individual and team performance.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Accept ERO position as needed.
Accept outage position as needed.
Performs duties as assigned by management and supervision.
SPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access.
Ability to operate a computer terminal and use word processing and database software.
Ability to pass a license physical exam.
Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to use basic algebra to solve formulas used in operations procedures; ability to read and interpret schematics and system drawings.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Overtime and alternate work schedules as needed.
Subject to callouts twenty-four hours per day seven days per week.
Ability to work rotating shift in the Plant Control Room. This requires the ability to work under stress.
Must be able to wear a respirator including a self-contained breathing apparatus.
Initial training will be in a classroom environment. Training is intensive and will require study outside of normal working hours.
Training will include rotating shift assignments in the plant to complete On-the-Job training requirements and simulator sessions conducted during weekends.
Must access all areas of the plant (includes extensive walking, stooping, climbing and exposure to heat).
