Requirements:
High School/GED or equivalent (Required)
Associates degree in a science, mathematics, or technology program, (preferably) Mechanical or Operations Technology. Navy nuclear power plant experience may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement. (Preferred)
Industrial or commercial plant equipment operations. (Preferred)
Summary: The Operator 1 position is responsible for assisting in the operation of plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner, as directed by Control Room personnel. Essential responsibilities are plant equipment operation.
· Responsibilities include operation of assigned equipment during all phases of plant operation, inspecting operating equipment, and initiating service requests for equipment/component repairs as needed.
· Attends and successfully completes all phases of the Operator Apprenticeship program.
· Acts as a member of the Fire Brigade.
· Acts in an assigned position for the Emergency Response Organization per the Station Emergency Plan as required.
· Participates in refueling activities, accepts outage position as needed.
· Monitors system parameters as required to always be aware of equipment conditions during the work shift.
· Performs required operational checks. Observes and evaluates instruments and alarms for operating problems; informs shift supervision.
· Maintains required logs, charts, and records on the assigned work shift.
· Supports Maintenance by Equipment Clearance Orders.
· Perform minor maintenance, including adjusting manual valve packing, replacing fuses, pressurizing tanks, installing test equipment, adding oil to equipment, and draining water from components.
· Attends training and retraining. Performs on-the-job training for other apprentice level operators.
· Maintains proficiency in radiation protective techniques and procedures.
· Performs housekeeping duties, including maintaining and keeping equipment and areas clean.
· Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access.
· Ability to meet requirements for wearing a respirator.
· Ability to use basic mathematics to complete log computations.
Work Hours: During much of the training, individuals will work a 4 day/10-hour work schedule (Monday-Thursday); however, alternate work schedules including shift work will be required to support outages and other plant needs.

- Due to the nature of the work, this position requires work to be performed in the field and/or at the work site.
Salary: The starting pay is $37.30 per hour. After the successful completion of each 6-month training period, the wage rate increases as shown below:

Environmental and Physical Requirements:
- Environmental and physical requirements require the ability to don appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the defined role; subject to crouching, stooping, bending, twisting and/or lifting to 30+ lbs.; ascending/descending stairs; ascending, descending, traversing ladders, scaffolds, stairs; working in confined spaces; moving safely over uneven or slippery terrain; working in proximity to loud equipment and possible inclement weather/temperature conditions.
Working Conditions:
Overtime and alternate work schedules as needed.
Subject to callouts twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week.
Shiftwork in nuclear power plant, including Holiday coverage.
Travel may be required.
May be required to carry a phone.
Working environment consist of both outside and inside work, in both extreme hot and cold temperatures.
Work may be in confined spaces, radiological areas, and at heights.
STPNOC is located on a 12,200-acre site approximately twenty (20) miles southwest of Bay City, Texas.
