ASM Global, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities, has an excellent and immediate opening for the Director of Sales & Marketing for ASM Global/Waco Convention Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maximizing rental of the facility by broadening and diversifying client base and through aggressive sales approach. Specific target groups include convention and corporate programs and special events.

  • Act as a liaison with building personnel, CVB’s clients, etc. to represent ASM and assure client’s needs are meet.

  • Responsible for assisting the facility on corporate, convention, and special event sales and marketing.

  • Responsible for maintaining existing client relationships as well as renewing contracts for flat/trade shows.

  • Responsible for site inspections of facilities, submission of proposals, rental quotes, sales & contract negotiations.

  • Handle pre-event correspondence and meetings until the account can be turned over to an Event Coordinator/Manager.

  • Required to interact with Event Services and Operations staff on the overall scope of client’s program in the preliminary stages.

  • Development of all sales materials related to corporate/convention/special event sales.

  • Responsible for the formation and maintenance of a lead system/existing client database.

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with convention sales managers, local hotels and destination management companies.

  • High aptitude for figures and advanced writing skills

  • Professional presentation, appearance and work ethic

  • Acts as Executive on Duty as required

  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Develops and manages the venue marketing plan, content and assets for the department to function effectively as an in-house agency to create and promote regional and national awareness of the venue and its events

  • Creates and supervises marketing initiatives for events through areas such as group sales, public relations, media placement, direct mail, street teams, promotional development, non-profit opportunities, website communications, social media and digital assets to maximize revenue through ticket sales and sponsorships

  • Directs the public relations image of the facility, while establishing and maintaining working relationships with media, industry influencers, community stakeholders and strategic partners

  • Act as a creative director and work along with staff and/or outside advertising agency to develop all collateral

  • Identify, develop, present and execute sponsorship opportunities including, but not limited to, all signage and event inventory, all promoted activities inside and/or outside the facility

  • Lead or assist in the negotiations of sales contracts and agreements with building sponsors and create new business initiatives to identify new sponsorship revenue sources

  • Develops and manages contracts and renewals while monitoring contract compliance and fulfillment

  • Evaluate current marketing and sponsorships to ensure return on investments and efficient use of assets

  • Work with all departments to create marketing and promotion plans to increase revenues

  • Annually produce collateral such as marketing plan, year-end recap, year-end video and client parties, etc.

  • Prepares statistics, reports and presentations for executive leadership

  • Operates the department with a conscious commitment to maximum exposure for the facilities and its events, through the most effective and efficient means possible while maintaining brand standards of logo and name when used by outside parties in partnerships or sponsorships

  • Maintains current competency with national trends in the industry for the local, regional and national markets Recognizes opportunities to receive publicity from building operations, activities, awards/honors, etc. and share with local, regional or national media and/or ASM Corporate

  • Responsible for maintaining cutting-edge status on new ideas or technologies related to website, mobile apps, social media, advertising/media opportunities and promotional items

  • In coordination with the General Manager, acts as the venue spokesperson and liaison with the general public

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises Managers, Assistants or Coordinators in the Sales Department. The Director of Sales & Marketing carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with ASM Global’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing complaints and resolving problems

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in Business, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations or related field preferred

  • Minimum 3-5 years sales related experience required

  • 2-3 years supervisory experience necessary

  • Facility/industry experience preferred

    Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills required

  • Ability to effectively supervise staff

  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects

  • High aptitude for figures and advanced writing skills

  • Professional presentation, appearance and work ethic

    Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have working knowledge of spreadsheet software and work processing software and be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
