Farm Production and Conservation (FPAC) Business Center Visual Information Specialist in United States
Summary This position is located in the Employee Development Branch of the Human Resources Division (HRD), Farm Production and Conservation Business Center (FPAC-BC), U.S. The incumbent serves as a visual and graphic designer for training and development-related visual information services and provides a wide variety of such services to staffs throughout the HRD as well as other Divisions. This is a TERM Position Not To Exceed four years. See additional information. Responsibilities Works with the Curriculum Development Team to develop learning products and visual aids, and produces the final products. Recommend basic content and form for the visual projects as well as the most cost-effective media that portray the subject matter. Stays abreast of current visual information practices that apply to the development and delivery of visualization across multiple platforms. Manage and analyze workflow to design and produce visual information products using computer graphics, digital imagery and other creative components. Uses state-of-the-art electronic and digital computer associated techniques and technologies to ensure highest level final products. Conceptualize and construct highly complex visual information material for a variety of requirements. Basic Requirement: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment. Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis. OR Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized experience for the GS-12: One year of specialized experience that is equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as a majority of the following: Planning and completing visual information projects, primarily in the form of exhibits, printed publications, and visual presentations, aimed at communicating a wide variety of information; Providing advice on technical advantages and disadvantages of various formats, styles, media and methods of reproduction, and types of presentations; Researching source material, such as reports, plans, and publications, in order to determine the best presentation of material; Applying tools and methods of computer graphics technology to maximize the quality, efficiency, speed, and cost effectiveness of visual information creation, automation, and transfer to viable end products. This position is eligible for telework within the local commuting area of the position and other flexible work arrangements. Current USDA policy includes telework for an 8 hour work day, 4 days per week; other flexibilities are possible dependent upon availability and/or the position and its associated duties.
