Researches a variety of sources, analyzes, and initiates actions on tax issues obtaining applicable returns, schedules, and all required information for correction of accounts and records; verifies, analyzes and adjusts taxpayer accounts. Secures payment of delinquent taxes and filing of delinquent returns. Determines financial, levy source, adjustment and uncollectible information; advises taxpayers of appeal procedures. May serve as a technical advisor, OJT coach, classroom instructor, or reviewer, and provide technical assistance on systemic problems and inconsistencies in IRMs. Performs other duties as assigned. This position has career progression. If you are selected at a grade level lower than the full working level, you may be non-competitively promoted as your career progresses. For example, you may be hired as a GS-04, but if the position has career progression to GS-06, then you may move from a GS-04 to a GS-06 in as little as two years. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: These are seasonal positions. The initial season is 4-6 or 6-8 months and can be extended. Tour of Duty: Training may be conducted during a Tour of Duty (TOD) other than the one you were selected for. You will return to your permanent TOD once training is complete. Post of Duty: Training may be conducted in a designated location other than the assigned POD located in the job offer until training is complete. This position is not telework eligible and will require you to work in office for the full work week. If you are selected for the position, you are responsible for reporting to your designated POD (location) on the negotiated start date or as directed by management. Telework Eligible Positions: Telework eligible positions do not guarantee telework. Employees must meet and sustain IRS telework eligibility requirements (e.g., reporting at least twice a pay period to your assigned Post of Duty (POD)) and supervisor's approval to participate in the IRS Telework Program. Employees must also be within a 200-mile radius of their official assigned post-of-duty (POD) while in a telework status. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one's employment with Treasury. The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement OR time of referral: QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To qualify for this position, you must meet the qualification requirements outlined below: GENERAL EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION FOR GS-04: You must have 1 year of general experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-03 grade level in the Federal service. General experience for this position includes progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the competencies needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. This may be paid or non-paid experience. OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: Two (2) years of education above the high school level in an accredited junior college, college, university, business, secretarial or technical school. OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION FOR GS-05: You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes experience that is in or related to this position and provided you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Examples of qualifying experience include experience performing a variety of miscellaneous tasks involving researching and processing financial documents, reviewing information, and determining corrective action on accounts, researching for missing/unclear accounting information, and reviewing financial documents submitted for completeness. OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: four (4) years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited college or university. OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. Education For positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying for this position by substituting education or training for experience, submit a copy of your transcripts or equivalent. The salary range indicated in this announcement reflects the minimum locality pay up to maximum locality pay for all duty locations listed. The range will be adjusted for selected duty location. Work Schedule: There is not a guarantee you will be selected for the work schedule you prefer. If selected on a seasonal work schedule, the season is either 4-6 months, or 6-8 months determined upon selection. Tour of Duty: Day Shift - Start and stop times between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Night Shift - Start and stop times between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Swing Shift - Start and stop times between 2:00 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. Alternative work schedule, staggered work hours or telework may be available. A recruitment incentive has been authorized for eligible, highly qualified applicants. The incentive will be $2,000 and will require a two-year service agreement. The service agreement details will be provided to new employees prior to entrance on duty. This monetary incentive will be disbursed as outlined in the service agreement. In the event that a building is closed due to rent management, new hires may be placed in a local commuting location. Season is from 4-6 of months to 6-8 Months. Employees who work a seasonal work schedule are placed in non-pay status or recalled to duty as workload or budget dictates and in accordance with their seasonal employment agreement. This audit may include up to 2 years of returns.
