Summary OIG is organized into seven operational units: the Immediate Office of the Inspector General, Office of the Counselor, Office of Audits and Evaluations, Office of Healthcare Inspections, Office of Investigations, Office of Management and Administration, and Office of Special Reviews. In addition to the Washington, DC, headquarters, OIG has offices located in more than 60 locations throughout the country. Responsibilities OIG employees will remain at their current location. As a Supervisory Nurse (Consultant), you will: - Coordinate with OIG regional offices and headquarters staff in research and analysis required to develop inspection proposals and work plans. - Identify topics with the greatest potential for improving the Department's quality of care, patient care programs, and key issues and concerns of the Inspector General, the Secretary and Deputy Secretary, other key Department officials and the Congress. - Plan, coordinate, and/or conduct extensive pre-inspection clinical research and provide appropriate guidance to non-clinical team members where such is needed. - Inspect, analyze, and evaluate quantitative and qualitative clinical information obtained during the inspection process by individual team members in order to assess whether each team member is appropriately interpreting the clinical information, identify all potential problems that need to be inspected, and focus on areas that need to be improved. Qualifications You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. Registration Requirement: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. AND Education requirement: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. AND Specialized experience for the GS-14 is one (1) year of experience at the GS-13 level, or equivalent that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes: -Providing leadership and direction of a healthcare inspection team ensuring support in quality improvement and patient care issues for a regional or comparable sized office; AND -Performing in-depth reviews and evaluations of quality improvement procedures, patient care, inspections, and oversight projects in a healthcare environment and in conformance with Federal regulations. In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-14, you must have been at the GS-13 level for 52 weeks. Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a nontemporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment. Education Education: A degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed. Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied. The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
