Summary OIG is organized into seven operational units: the Immediate Office of the Inspector General, Office of the Counselor, Office of Audits and Evaluations, Office of Healthcare Inspections, Office of Investigations, Office of Management and Administration, and Office of Special Reviews. In addition to the Washington, DC, headquarters, OIG has offices located in more than 60 locations throughout the country. As a Supervisory Mathematical Statistician, you will: Provide OHI with the statistical and data expertise necessary to effectively and efficiently review VA programs and operations to accomplish OIG's mission with excellence and integrity. Provide expertise in statistics and data science, including comprehensive knowledge of and agility navigating and working with VA and non-VA administrative databases. Conduct rigorous, complex studies based on upcoming healthcare inspections, reviews, and evaluations; controversial or new medical techniques or technologies; and areas of interest of the IG, Secretary, or Congress. Work in conjunction with senior OIG staff to ensure statistical studies and priorities are in line with organizational objectives. Maintains full control of study design including defining samples, determining which questions to ask and in what order, developing strategies for data collection, and overseeing data collection. Requirements Conditions of Employment The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Qualifications To be qualified for this position at the GS-15 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as work that involves: Leading and conducting studies requiring analysis of statistical data based on specific requirements; AND Utilizing software/computer platforms to establish analytical data files, perform statistical data analyses, and report findings; AND Developing reports on study findings AND Explaining data analysis results in relation to health/business issues and their impact on a program or organization.
