Come join our team! Responsibilities This position serves as the Chief of the Statistical Engineering Division (SED) in NIST's Information Technology Laboratory. In this role, the candidate selected: Plans, directs, coordinates, and administers the scientific and technical work of the SED to promote the application of statistics to metrological issues in information technology, the physical sciences, and engineering. Establishes and cultivates relationships and collaborations with key stakeholders across ITL/NIST, industry, government, and academia; Coordinates with and supports the interagency partnerships and collaborations involving the application of statistics and provides technical assistance on the statistical aspects of executive actions and public policies, or legislative proposals; Communicates the status of division activities within NIST and the Department of Commerce, the interagency, and external stakeholders, and represents NIST in external meetings and events; Supports statistical metrology short course for NIST staff, conference participants, and other agencies; Manages the financial and personnel resources of the division; Supervises and serves as a mentor to employees; and serves as a vital member of the ITL management team. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Basic Requirements: Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics. OR Combination of education and experience -- at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to the above basic requirements: Applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of the specialized experience at the GS-14 level (ZP-IV at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience in managing an organization responsible for developing and applying statistical and probabilistic methods and techniques supporting science, metrology, or technology research. Experience must include interdisciplinary collaborations with industry, academia, and multiple government agencies to implement methods and techniques for experimental design, data analysis, statistical modeling, and probabilistic inference in computer software. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
