Summary This position is a Supervisory Biologist, GS- 0401-13 for the R9-Division of Budget and Technical Support. Location is negotiable upon selection. Preferred locations are: Madison, WI; Hadley, MA; or Bailey's Crossroads, VA. At managements discretion your physical report date to one of the preferred locations may be extended up to 90-calendar days from the official entrance on duty (EOD) date. The physical report date cannot go beyond the 90-calendar days from the EOD. Responsibilities As a Supervisory Biologist you serve as the Project Leader for the field operations staff as well as provide technical expertise in the mapping of standard compliant wetland data and in the decadel status and trends reports. Duties include: Lead the NWI Field Operation Team in support of the larger Program goal to provide standard compliant wetland data to the public on behalf of the Federal Government. Assist wetland mapping projects requiring regular communication with funders and contractors on the project scope and implementation as well as ensuring deadlines are met and costs are within the budget. Oversight of staff quality control of wetland mapping data produced by contractors to remedy errors. Mapping and quality control of select wetlands through photointerpretation as needed to complete a project or test new mapping processes. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Only experience and education obtained by 09/23/2024 will be considered. Basic Requirement: A bachelors degree or higher in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR A combination of education and experience that included coursework equivalent to a major (i.e. 24 semester/36 quarter hours or school equivalent) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines as shown in A above, PLUS appropriate experience or additional education, and in combination equals 100% of the basic requirements. Minimum Qualification [GS-13] One year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience includes: 1) Developing and interpreting wetland classification data; 2) Mapping wetlands according to federal wetland standards from aerial and satellite imagery; 3) Collaborating with Federal, State, and other agency staff to develop federal standard compliant wetland data from aerial and satellite imagery; 4) Conducting quality control on wetland data developed by others from aerial and satellite imagery; and 5) Testing and implementing, when practical, new technologies (e.g., eCognition, Object-based Image Analysis, AI, Google Earth Engine, etc.) into mapping wetlands or other natural resources.
