We're seeking a dedicated Senior Assistant Resident Engineer to contribute expertise and leadership to work on Design-Build projects in Division 13 (Asheville area).
Responsibilities:
Oversee various construction operations for roadways and structures, ensuring compliance with project contracts, standards, and specifications.
Perform moderate to complex inspection and survey work, ensuring materials and processes meet required standards.
Review and manage project documentation, including daily diaries, sample cards, asphalt reports, NPDES reports, material received forms, survey notes, and monthly estimates.
Provide training and support to inspection staff, ensuring NCDOT certifications are maintained.
Create, maintain, and analyze project reports and records.
Lead or actively participate in progress and coordination meetings.
Monitor and track testing to confirm compliance with minimum sampling requirements.
Support the Resident Engineer and other team members in project execution.
Document project findings and implement corrective actions as needed.
Communicate effectively, presenting information clearly to individuals or groups, both orally and in writing.
Interpret plans and specifications, ensuring construction work aligns with project requirements.
Track contractor progress and provide regular updates.
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with at least four years of experience in roadway and bridge construction and inspection.
PE preferred and not required
NCDOT experience preferred
Contract administration experience
Strong understanding of roadway and bridge construction processes, inspection techniques, and material testing.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and iPad/tablet-based data entry systems.
Competency in mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, for field adjustments and calculations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with contractors, agency personnel, and the public.
Exceptional time management, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
Physical ability to work on construction sites, including walking over rough terrain, standing for long hours, bending, stooping, and working in various weather conditions.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and ability to drive.
