Responsibilities Collect, interpret, and analyze data (i.e., vegetation, watershed, rangeland, invasive plants, conditions, and natural processes) to evaluate implemented management practices and prescriptions. Performs resource inventory, monitoring and surveys. Performs resource inventory and assessments of major and minor land use projects. Assist in preparing biological assessments and consultations for proposed projects and any other activity on public land. Develops and maintains a restoration resource information database. Authorizes livestock use, processes, transfers, requests, and reports actual use, permits authorized, and projects completed. Develops rangeland, riparian and other restoration, and improvement projects. Aid with weeds and weed related treatments; review and prepare proposals for pesticide use to ensure proper methods and procedures are followed. Participates in the planning and preparing of multiple-use resource management plans and environmental impact documents. Establishes and maintains working relationships with outside agencies, livestock operators, partner organizations and the public. Assist in the conservation and protection of listed and proposed threatened and endangered plant species in coordination with other programs. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Individual Occupation Requirement (IOR): This position has a positive education requirement which requires that you meet one of the below requirements for Series 0401, Natural Resources Specialist: 1) A degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR 2) Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in (1) above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You MUST also meet the requirements below: Specialized Experience Statement: To qualify for the GS-07 grade level: In addition to meeting the education requirement, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Providing technical expertise with emphasis in vegetation and or wildlife; assisting in program development and implementation of a natural resource, wildlife, botany, or range management program; and addressing issues related to range management; addressing plant and habitat issues. -OR- Education: have completed 1 year of graduate level education in biological sciences or a directly related field.-OR- Superior Academic Achievement (a directly related Bachelor's Degree with 3.0 GPA overall, or 3.5 in the final two years, or 3.5 in coursework) -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Superior Academic Achievement (See OPM's General Policies, Application of Qualification Standards Section 4.f.) S.A.A. must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled. Specialized Experience Statement: To qualify for the GS-09 grade level: In addition to meeting the education requirement, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Collecting and analyzing data for studies of plant and or wildlife communities; using manual or chemical techniques to control invasive plants; implementing work plans for invasive plant management and native vegetation restoration; and providing guidance to others on technical aspects of work. -OR- Education: Completed 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in biological sciences or a directly related field. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Specialized Experience Statement: To qualify for the GS-11 grade level: In addition to meeting the education requirement, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: participating in the planning and execution of ecological or biological studies with a limited number of variables; performing established, standardized tests and analyses on a broad range of biological samples; conducting studies using established fact-finding and evaluation procedures; conducting long-term monitoring of biological or ecosystem components; working with organizations, state and local government agencies, volunteers, and local communities to implement conservation and recreation programs; Assisting in the preparation of professionally acceptable planning and/or compliance documents; or other related work. -OR- Education: 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate Doctoral education. Doctoral level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Education This position has a positive education requirement that requires a degree in biological science, agruculture, natuaral resource management, chemistry, or related discipline appropriate to the position.
