JEA Interest in Advanced Treatment Water Facility positions! in United States

JEA is constructing a 1.0 MGD membrane-based Advanced Treatment Water Facility as part of the H2.O Purification Program. “The Center” is designed to exceed water quality goals needed for aquifer replenishment. Operational processes include membrane filtration, reverse osmosis and UV advanced oxidation. JEA will be hiring dedicated professionals to operate this state-of-the art membrane purification facility as part of the H2.O Purification Program. ATWF Operations Maintainer I:

This is advanced skilled-craft work in operating and maintaining an Advanced Treatment Water Facility (ATWF). Work requires considerable knowledge, operation maintenance, regulations, policies, methods, standards, and procedures governing operation and maintenance operation of purification processes that include but not limited to membrane treatment (including reverse osmosis and microfiltration), photochemical Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOP), Granular Activated Carbon, membrane contactors for dissolved oxygen removal, remineralization and stabilization process control, hazardous chemical systems, injection well systems (aquifer replenishment and Deep Injection Well), and associated equipment operation. Staff will be required to conduct routine process sampling and data collection for optimization and control. Solves complex problems within established parameters and identifies and recommends responses to new and unusual circumstances. ATWF staff will be responsible for maintaining a professional atmosphere during all work hours to maximize the visitors experience at the center. Operator Maintainer I’s may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays and rotating shifts.

/OPEN REQUIREMENTS:/

  • Must have a high school diploma, or equivalent, and three (3) years’ experience in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of process equipment of the type used in water treatment facilities.

/LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:/

  • A valid driver’s license is required prior to employment and must be maintained during employment in this classification.
  • Must possess and maintain forklift certification and receive scissor lift training as provided by JEA.
  • Florida Class “B” Drinking Water license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this classification.

Two (2) years progressively responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of a membrane associated Reverse Osmosis (RO), Microfiltration (MF) and/or Ultrafiltration (UF) water treatment facility providing water to public water system.

/PROMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:/

  • All regular JEA employees who have served for a minimum of (two) 2 years as a ATWF Operator Maintainer I may apply.

/LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:/

  • A valid driver’s license is required prior to employment and must be maintained during employment in this classification.

Under limited supervision, plans, assigns, schedules, coordinates, monitors, reviews and leads the work of others in operating water treatment facilities and provides administrative, technical, operational and mechanical support for preventive and predictive maintenance to ensure continuous, safe and efficient service. Work requires considerable knowledge, operation maintenance, regulations, policies, methods, standards, and procedures governing operation and maintenance operation of Advanced Treatment Water Facility (ATWF) processes that include but not limited to membrane treatment (including reverse osmosis and microfiltration), photochemical Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOP), Granular Activated Carbon, membrane contactors for dissolved oxygen removal, remineralization and stabilization process control, hazardous chemical systems, injection well systems (aquifer replenishment and Deep Injection Well), and associated equipment operation. Solves complex problems within established parameters and identifies and recommends responses to new and unusual circumstances. May be required to work any shift schedule on a rotational basis and remain on-call 24 hours a day to maintain 24-hour, 7 day per week service.

/OPEN REQUIREMENTS:/

  • Five (5) years progressively responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of a membrane associated Reverse Osmosis (RO), Microfiltration (MF) and/or Ultrafiltration (UF) water treatment facility providing water to public water system. The preferred candidate will have experience in a Lead capacity.

  • All regular JEA employees who have served for a minimum of (two) 2 years as a ATWF Operator Maintainer II may apply.

ATWF Operations Coordinator:

Under limited supervision, plans, assigns, schedules, coordinates, monitors, reviews and leads the work of others in operating water treatment facilities and provides administrative, technical, operational, and mechanical support for preventive and predictive maintenance to ensure continuous, safe and efficient service. Job requires working knowledge of JEA Purification treatment systems and related regulatory requirements and procedures, sufficient to perform a broad range of skilled craft activities. Procedures are established and a number of standards and guidelines are available, requiring judgment in locating and selecting the most appropriate methods, standards and procedures to apply to specific situations. Solves complex problems within established parameters and identifies and recommends responses to new and unusual circumstances. Completed work is evaluated for technical soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policies and requirements. Regular contact with individuals in other work groups and external customers is required to provide information; plan, coordinate and advise on work efforts; and resolve complaints and problems. May be required to work a variety of shift schedules on a rotational basis and remain on-call 24 hours a day to maintain 24-hour, 7 day per week service.

  • Seven (7) years progressively responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of a membrane associated Reverse Osmosis (RO), Microfiltration (MF) and/or Ultrafiltration (UF) water treatment facility providing water to public water system. The preferred candidate will have experience in a Lead capacity.

ATWF Operator Maintainer II:$47.49/hr

ATWF Team Leader:$48.81/hr

ATWF Operations Coordinator:54.55/hr

*Please note that these positions fall within civil service labor unions and are governed by collective bargaining agreements (CBA). The current CBAs are active through September 30, 2025. New CBAs will be established for the next 3 years, prior to October 1, 2025.
