GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is committed to providing a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system for the State of Wyoming. We now seek a full-time Hydraulic Engineer located in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Performing engineering related to hydraulic analysis, design, review, and recommendations for highway drainage structures such as culverts, bridges, and storm drains to enhance public safety and improve the state transportation system.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
With direction and training from the supervisor and more experienced engineers, produces and checks hydrologic flood frequency analysis and hydraulic designs of culverts, bridges, and storm drains
Uses analysis to recommend hydraulic structure sizes to meet desired capacity
Performs flood frequency analysis and hydraulic analysis using computer programs
Collects and assembles the needed data for analysis
Prepares input files (data) for computer programs that perform the analyses and compile output in the report
Prepares draft reports and notebooks containing the hydrologic and hydraulic analysis
Ensures the designs of other engineers meet technical and policy project requirements
Checks assumptions and design calculations for conformance with governing policy, accuracy, and completeness
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference will be given to candidates who have a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis in Water Resources, plus Engineer in Training (EIT) or Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) certification.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge and competence in the principles of engineering hydraulics, flow through bridge waterways, hydrology, and statistical frequency of floods for various watersheds
Skilled in the use of computer applications for hydraulic design and office automation
Ability to analyze and solve problems to produce complete, legible, and organized solutions
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (in Engineering)
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (in Engineering)
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Some agencies may require a certificate of registration from the Board of Engineering.

**Qualifying eligibility and criteria for the hiring bonus
Temporary employees accepting a full-time position
Acceptance of a permanent full-time non-exempt/exempt position posted for public recruitment
Current employees accepting a promotional opportunity - recruitment must have been opened to the public
One year of service to WYDOT must be completed, failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive, and funds will be recouped from final pay.
Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.
Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
