GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position provides fire education, mitigation, prevention, suppression, and medical treatment at an appropriate EMS level for Camp Guernsey and associated training lands.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
Lead crews in the accomplishment of fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical treatment, and fire prevention services.
Act as the first responder to incidents requiring emergency medical treatment.
Assist the Firefighter I levels in training, work assignments, and daily activities as a group leader.
Assume responsibility for the performance and safety of assigned firefighting.
Make on-sight technical decisions about the best methods of extinguishing fires after evaluating the fire and receiving assignments from command officers.
Provide information to the public concerning fire prevention practices and procedures.
Conduct public education programs.
Participate in the development of programs for department use.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Preference will be given to those with an Associate's plus two years of Firefighting experience. Additional consideration will be given to the Wildland experience.
**Required to obtain/maintain a valid drivers license
**Required to obtain/maintain Federal Security Clearance
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of aircraft hazards
Knowledge of rescue procedures
Knowledge of firefighting techniques
Knowledge of nuclear and conventional weapons
Knowledge of tactics for most types of aircraft
Knowledge of modern Firefighting and rescue principles, practices, techniques, and procedures
Knowledge of fire behavior and mechanical, chemical, and related characteristics of a wide variety of hazardous materials
Knowledge of rules, regulations, and operational procedures of a Fire Department,
Knowledge of pertinent federal state, and local laws, codes, and regulations pertaining to fire suppression prevention and personnel training
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Associate's Degree (typically in Firefighting)
Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Firefighting) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Firefighter I

Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical Fitness and Agility maintenance program required
Ability to lift 150 pounds
NOTES:
FLSA: Non-Exempt
An additional 56.2 hours of base pay will be added to the salary each month
Initial physical agility assessment test required prior to employment
Guernsey is a remote, rural community with a population of approximately 1064. Locally, there are medical clinics, hardware store, grocery store, service stations, and restaurants. Wheatland and Torrington are 25 to 35 miles from Guernsey and have multiple restaurants, service stations, fast food, and general shopping. For larger personal shopping there are malls in Cheyenne and Casper, WY, and Scottsbluff, NE, all approx. 90 miles from Guernsey.
