Entry-Level Electrical Engineer (SUS)

POWER Engineers is seeking an entry-level Electrical Engineer to work in the Power Delivery Small Utility Services Department in our Denver office located in Denver, Colorado. The Electrical Engineer will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with POWER's mission statement and our culture. They are expected to support the department in achieving its goals, maintain POWER's high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork, and meet the needs of our clients.

The Small Utility Services (SUS) Department offers an opportunity to work with a unique portfolio of clients. The focus of this group is smaller scale utilities such as Electrical Cooperatives, Municipal Utilities, Rural Electric Associations, Public Utility Districts, Industrial Clients, and others. The ideal candidate possesses a service mindset in-line with our clients. By focusing on serving our clients so they can serve their members, SUS projects are often very hands on with the opportunity to leave a lasting impact on our local communities.

Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform the detailed design of low to extra-high voltage substations including, but not limited to:

  • One-Line Diagrams

  • Schematics

  • Wiring Diagrams

  • SCADA

  • Communications

  • Station Physical Layouts

  • Sections/Elevations

  • Cable and Conduit Plans and Details

  • Ground Grid Plans and Details

  • Control Enclosure Design and Details

  • Lightning Protection Plans

  • Yard Lighting Plans

  • Bills of Materials

  • Perform system modeling of transmission and distribution systems including, but not limited to:

  • Long Range Planning

  • Construction Work Plans

  • Equipment Sizing

  • Short Circuit Analysis

  • Protective Relay Settings

  • SCADA Equipment Settings

  • This role may include occasional travel and field work including, but not limited to:

  • Pre-Design Site Walkdowns

  • Construction Oversight

  • Commissioning/Energization Support

  • Support QA/QC for deliverables to clients.

  • Shall learn, understand, and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs.

  • Attend internal and external trainings, conferences, seminars, etc.

Required Education/Experience

  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power focus.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering to build on.

  • The candidate must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • At least 3 months of relevant electrical engineering work experience; could be on an internship or co-op basis.

  • Minimum 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA).

  • Knowledge of electrical utility substations and familiarity with substation design.

  • Engineer In Training certificate (EIT) or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam OR ability to pass within 6 months.

  • Attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills will be critical for completing tasks.

POWER is a fun engineering firm. That might seem contradictory to some, but it works for us!

Base Salary Range: $70k - $75k

The range for this position is being displayed in compliance with all state and local regulations. Salaries are set based on a number of factors to include an individual's job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. This means that no two candidates are alike. The range provided above does not include additional compensation such as bonus, health benefits, vacation, 401(k) match, etc.
