Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Mentor - PT (Grant-Funded)

Salary:$15.00 - $18.00 per hour

This is a grant-funded position. Grant-funded positions expire either at the end of the stated term or whenever funding for the position ceases.

The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking part-time Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Mentorsin our Student Life department. The EOP Mentor’s primary function is to assist financially and academically eligible students with individual mentorship, enhanced campus orientation, and academic support services.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Provides mentorship and assignment support to program participants in subjects like English, Reading, and Math;

  • Serves as an academic support in selected classes based on Mentor’s academic strengths;

  • Encourages student participation in all EOP academic and enrichment programs;

  • Engages EOP students in enhanced college preparation workshops and activities;

  • Leads and participates in planned evening and weekend activities;

  • Assists with distribution of study skills materials and campus resources;

  • Maintains accurate records and student files to document all services delivered to Educational Opportunity participants;

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Opportunity Programs.

    The work schedule for this position will be based on the needs of the department and the availability of the applicant. Successful candidate must be available to work up to 29 hours per week.

    Qualifications:

    Required Qualifications:

  • Must have an Associate degree OR a minimum of 60 completed college credits OR be an MVCC student who is currently enrolled in 6 credit hours, or will be enrolled in the fall semester

  • Familiarity with populations served by opportunity program

  • Experience working with a team

  • Demonstrate the ability to lead, and mentor students who have been traditionally underrepresented in higher education

  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook

  • Effective communication skills

  • Unofficial transcripts required at the time of application

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience participating in or working in Student Engagement activities
