    Summary

The D&S US Sector Chief Engineer is a senior leadership role accountable, empowered, and responsible for driving program engineering cost, schedule, staffing, technical compliance, and R&O management performance across the US business. This role will work closely with the D&S US business VP / GM and engineering functional matrix leaders, be a direct report to the D&S VP of Engineering and Technology, and will have direct report Chief Engineers that oversee the day-to-day operations of the D&S US Centers of Excellence (CoE).

*Role can be out of Tampa, FL or Arlington, TX.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports the D&S US Program VP / GM in the execution of programs across the D&S US Rotary Wing, Strike/C2, Airlift, Rapid Development, and Training Center CoEs

  • Accountable, empowered, and responsible for driving program engineering cost, schedule, technical compliance, and R&O management performance across the US business in alignment with the overarching financial plan and customer milestones

  • Accountable for D&S US engineering ROM, bid, proposal, baseline, and estimate at completion (EAC) accuracy, fidelity and viability

  • Accountable for ensuring team establishes staffing demand needs and priorities, and coordinates with the functional matrix leaders to ensure staffing supply and overarching workforce skills management plan aligns with the business needs

  • Identifies, reviews, and tracks D&S US–elevated critical paths across the CoEs, and aggressively coordinates support across all business disciplines to mitigate identified risks and capture opportunities

  • Content generation, presentations, and delivery of recurring engineering, D&S US, D&S, and corporate status, strategy, and management reviews regarding D&S US content

  • Drives teams to be a metrics-based organization, relying on both past and forward-looking information to drive execution, planning, EACs, and risk/opportunity assessments

  • Direct-line supervisor of D&S US CoE Chief Engineering (CE) staff, responsible for CE workforce management and development, succession planning, performance-related functions, and overhead budget planning and performance

  • Accountable for documenting the D&S US-level strategic product-facing technology needs in collaboration with the CoE and business development leads and the D&S Technology and Product Team, and ensures the D&S US product roadmap aligns, where applicable, with CAEs overall technology roadmap

  • Accountable for driving process and product convergence across the CoEs and with D&S International, plus reinforcing product reuse, where applicable, in coordination with the CAE Global Products and Technologies (GTP) team

  • Supports the engineering enterprise with a continuous improvement mindset while enforcing standards, policies, and procedures

  • Team accountability, responsibility, and authority for executing the engineering elements of ROM, bid, and proposals through collaboration with the functional matrix organizations, CoE leads, business development, and capture leads

  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate technical teams

    Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, math, or a science-related discipline

  • Minimum 15 years work experience in DoD with demonstrated success leading large, multi-discipline technical teams

  • Experience with proposals, program baselining, EACs, and risk & opportunity management

  • Detailed, hands-on experience across the full product lifecycle spectrum from basic R&D through production

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Must be a focused, driven, milestone-oriented leader with the demonstrated ability to direct teams, anticipate outcomes, make sound techno-business decisions based on limited information, and lead through influence across organizational and geographical boundaries

    Preferred Skills

  • Master’s degree in finance, business, engineering, computer science, math, or science-related discipline

  • Prior experience in flight simulation, training, or other related industry

  • Prior functional leadership experience

    Security Responsibilities

Must comply with all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures.  Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval.  All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.

  • Candidate must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.

    Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.

    Work Environment

This job operates in a dynamic, fast-paced professional office environment with occasional work in lab and high-bay environments near and in full-motion simulation devices. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

  • Must be able to sit down for long lengths of time, climb stairs, and occasionally carry common workplace items

  • Must be able and willing to travel to both US Domestic and International locations

  • Must be willing to work on-site, oftentimes with flexible, extended work hours

  • Temporary levels of moderate stress may be experienced due to time-critical technical, schedule, and customer issues
