The Merian Project is located approximately 60 km south of Moengo in a largely undeveloped part of the country with the nearest permanent settlement, Langa Tabiki, approximately 17 km east from the Project site. Dimensions

Purpose

The metallurgist provides technical support for the Merian Process Operation. This will entail the preparation of laboratory and plant tests and the analysis of subsequent results. Data transfer, routine production reporting and laboratory experiments are key tasks in this role. The Metallurgist will assist the Plant Metallurgists in routine duties such as reagent management, wear monitoring of mill liners, screen panels, cyclone parts and Knelson bowls. The Metallurgist I will also assist in the communication of plant results and the tracking of the plant’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Essential Duties

Safety & Environment

  • Comply with all Newmont Occupational Health, Safety, Social and

  • Environmental requirements, be comfortable to raise concerns to Supervisor

  • Be responsible for personnel safety and conscious towards the safety of all

  • other persons

  • Be familiar and adhere to FRM’s, LOTOTO, confined space, working at

  • heights, hazardous materials, radiation safety protocol and procedures

  • Identify potential hazards and take remedial actions where/if possible and

  • report to Supervisor

  • Lead and/or participate in Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) preparedness and

  • understand Newmont’s risk matrix

Technical Functions

  • Technical assistance to the Merian process operating personnel (Operations

  • Support) to ensure optimum metallurgical performance of the process plant including but not limited to:

  • Assures compliance with established procedures and quality assurance methods

  • Ability to complete daily metallurgical accounting reporting

  • Ability to interpret results, trigger investigation and communicate results with supervision by the Senior Metallurgist

  • Ability to track and review key wear parts i.e. mill liners, Knelson bowls, screening media, cyclone liners

  • Familiarize with key Metallurgical equipment and have the ability to troubleshoot any malfunctions. Key equipment includes Particle size analyzers, cyanide analyzers, carbon scout, autosamplers.

  • Provide technical knowledge and field transfer of knowledge to operations and maintenance as needed

  • Participate as department delegate in key process meetings including but not limited to; daily production meeting, maintenance schedule review, mine to mill

  • Assist with non-routine metallurgical lab duties, including the documentation and communication of results

  • Assist in the development, functional test and review of the metallurgical procedures

  • Provide technical insights into the preventative maintenance plans for fixed plant assets including routine work notifications and shutdown tracking

  • Actively participate in continuous improvement programs which will assist in enhancing the performance of the Merian process plant operation, including but not limited to mine-to-mill initiatives

Personal Development

  • Keeps current with mineral processing technology and the practical experiences of other operations.

  • Complete training program as specified by the Metallurgical Personnel training matrix

Training & Experience

Knowledge:

  • B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering or B.S in Chemistry in related field and/or area of expertise

  • *Equivalent: Min. 5 yr. experience as Metallurgy Technician and completion of Metcelerate program

Experience:

  • Completion of Metcelerate 2 year of metallurgy study is an advantage

  • Completion of 6 month operational rotation and 2 months other department exchange preferred

  • Ability to complete a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and safety interaction amongst peers

  • Demonstrated adherence and use of LOTOTO procedures

  • Proficiency in the use of MS products including Excel, Word, Power Point

  • Introductory knowledge of PI OSI products enabling the ability to use PI Datalink, MPA and PI

  • Vision for plant data analysis and capture

  • Ability to operate other standard business software

Skills and Abilities:

  • Professionally bi-lingual, with demonstrated ability to read, write and converse in both Dutch and

  • English at a high standard

  • Ability to lead a team to achieve desired outcomes

  • Ability to demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking

  • A desire to keep current in metallurgical advances with self-learning as well as formal training

  • A willingness and ability to understand and adopt new technologies

Working Conditions

  • Site based position at the Merian Gold Mine

  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to sit at a desk from time to time,

  • climb stairs, walk, stand and carry samples buckets around of up to 20 kg

  • Occasional exposure to noise, fumes, high temperature hazardous materials, sharp edges, dust,

  • pinch-points, vibration, slippery surfaces etc.

  • Position may be requiring travel to Corporate Office or other domestic and international sites
