Responsibilities The individual selected for this position serves as Confidential Assistant to the Commissioner, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). You would perform a variety of highly critical and confidential assignments in connection with various matters with which the Commissioner is personally concerned. The position requires an intimate knowledge of the views, plans, and interest of the Commission and a personal, confidential relationship of trust between the Commissioner and you, which means exercising considerable tact, careful judgment, and discretion. As a Confidential Assistant, some of your typical work assignments may include: Conducting and directing research for special studies for the Commissioner regarding Commission programs, operations, and policy. Preparing and reviewing reports, documents, and other material of concern to the Commissioner which bear on the effective discharge of their responsibilities. Receiving and screening a high volume of calls and visitors for the Commissioner and their staff. Serving as a liaison with key officials of the Commission, including regional offices. Making arrangements for and maintaining the Commissioner's schedule. Ensuring the Commissioner is fully briefed on agenda items and has all pertinent background information. Coordinating follow-up actions on matters resulting from meetings and personally tracking the progress of items of immediate concern to the Commission. Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen or National. A one-year probationary period may be required. A background investigation is required. This is not a bargaining unit position. Generally, male applicants must be registered with the Selective Service. Relocation expenses will not be paid. You may be required to divest certain energy-related securities. You must meet all eligibility and qualification (experience and/or education) requirements by the closing date of this announcement. You must have one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 level. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience (1) performing analytical research and assistance for the executive of an organization; (2) providing clerical and administrative support to senior management on a wide range of administrative issues and program objectives, such as strategic planning, communication, logistics, and personnel; and (3) coordinating with executive officials both internal and external to the organizations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including any volunteer experience. Additional Information This is a competitive temporary/time-limited appointment, not to exceed one year. This time-limited appointment is to meet temporary Commission needs for a one year period. The time-limited appointment can be extended, not to exceed four years total.
