    we are looking for you as a(n)Chemical Operator (CSS) - DisCo.

The Chemical Operator (Chemical Support Specialist) will coordinate and monitor maintenance, repair, and assembly activities in the your responsible Silanes area. Creation and execution of Safe Work Permits and be responsible for the preparation of equipment for scheduled maintenance activites as well as preparation of equipment for return to service following any maintenance activities. The Chemical Operator (Chemical Support Specialist) will create and execute Lock out Tag out for equipment. Transportation of parts and other materials into/out of department. Interface with warehouse/maintenance/engineering/process support/shift operations to ensure departmental operational, safety and quality goals are achieved and act as a resource to outside contractors, repair facilities, and technical support departments through the direction of the appropriate Wacker contact person.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and monitors major preventive maintenance activities and process improvements in conjunction with internal maintenance/ engineering/ development departments/contractor management group and/or WACKER contact person for outside contractors to ensure safety, quality and completion by agreed deadlines.

  • Prepares equipment for handover to maintenance and or contractor management group for repair. Prepares equipment following maintenance for introduction of hazardous materials and/or startup of equipment. This includes tasks such as creation and execution of Energy Isolation plans, leak tests, purge plans et al.

  • Waste disposal according to applicable procedures and regulations.

  • Supports the replenishment of consumable materials including ordering, storage and organization of items such as gaskets, bolts, hand tools, etc. as well as coordinating with logistics to facilitate delivery and storage of parts/materials.

  • Works closely with the areas Technical support specialist to ensure areas of responsibility meet operational and safety expectations. Performs routine field walks of assigned areas in the field (pipes, PSV’s, P&ID’s, …) and submit maintenance notifications to ensure any potential problems/concerns are addressed in a timely manner.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in a technical or mathematical field OR, #3+ years of chemical operator experience dealing with hazardous chemicals such as HCl

  • A.A.S degree or technical certificate/ diploma in Mechatronic Systems or closely related field preferred# Completion of the Chemical Operator program at Chattanooga State Community College (or equivalent program) with a GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred

  • Two years on-the-job experience in a PSM regulated environment

  • Have proven technical and mechanical aptitude

  • Be a team player with the desire to lead and coach/train others

  • Teamwork skills with safety and environmental consciousness required

  • Ability for effective communication under pressure (face-to-face, radio/phone, computer)

  • Be willing to work a flexible day shift schedule in which the start and end time can vary by several hours

  • Be willing to work overtime (including weekends and holidays) if necessary

  • Must have a valid driver’s license

  • Must pass pre-employment testing

  • Must be able to read and understand P&ID's and other technical documentation

  • Effective writing and verbal skills with the ability to effectively communicate to peers at the site

  • Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and associated instrumentation

  • Ability to work as a member of a cross-functional technical team to troubleshoot and improve systems

  • Organizational skills

  • Able to obtain site license for powered industrial truck

  • Proficient with PC’s and with office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SAP, Adobe )

  • Proficient with use of hand tools

  • Must have an in depth knowledge of Lock out concepts and Energy Isolation plans
