Job Description

The Teacher and Bilingual Education Department (TBED) in the College of Education and Human Performance at Texas A&M University-Kingsville invites applications for a 9-month position, Assistant/Associate Professor(Tenure­ Track) or Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice to begin Fall 2025. The Special Education Program faculty are dedicated to preparing future educators, researchers, and leaders in the fields of special education using both evidence­ based and innovative practices to meet the needs of exceptional learners. The Special Education program in TBED offers a Master of Education in Special Education with optional Educational Diagnostician Certification (online), and a Bachelor of Science degree with licensure options in K-12 special education on our three campuses (Kingsville, Harlingen, and Weslaco).

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the undergraduate and graduate special education programs;

  • Recruit students for the programs;

  • Teach a variety of courses in our undergraduate and/or graduate program(s);

  • Serve on university, college, and department committees;

  • Maintain a record of scholarly productivity commensurate with faculty position, related to special education;

  • Guide undergraduate and graduate students in their area of expertise (advisement);

  • Contribute to course and program development;

  • Continue to grow professionally and stay at the cutting edge of research in special education.

Minimum Requirements:

  • An earned doctorate degree in special education or a closely related field from an accredited institution (ABD applicants considered);

  • Special education certification from the U.S.;

  • Minimum three years of successful teaching of students in public U.S. Pk-12 settings;

  • Experience teaching methods courses in special education teacher preparation;

  • Experience working with pre-service education students;

  • Demonstrated capacity for teaching and mentoring students at the graduate level;

  • Knowledge and application of assistive technology and/or intensive interventions;

  • Ability to conduct research appropriate to guidelines of the university and college;

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience coordinating undergraduate and graduate special education programs;

  • Experience developing doctoral programs in special education;

  • Certified educational diagnostician; ·

  • Working knowledge of Spanish for bilingual settings;

  • A record of instructional innovation and leadership in course/program development;

  • A record of engagement and leadership in professional organizations.
