Job Description

The Assistant Director of the Academic Learning Center is responsible for supporting the academic progress of TAMU-SA students by supervising and managing the Academic Learning Center. This position coordinates academic tutoring services, supplemental instruction (SI), and other tutor-supported efforts for a wide variety of individuals and groups. The Assistant Director will manage the recruiting, screening, and hiring of student tutors and SI leaders for specified academic subject areas, supervise and evaluate day-to-day activities of the Center, and work collaboratively with university faculty and staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage, recruit, select, train and supervise tutors and SI leaders.

  • Develops and implements training programs to ensure tutors and SI leaders are well-equipped to provide high-quality support.

  • Manages the Supplemental Instruction Program including supervision of SI leaders and other professional staff.

  • Fosters a student-centered environment by maintaining positive peer staff-student relationships and addressing any issues that arise.

  • Develops guidelines for the tutoring and SI program and develops new learning programs as necessary.

  • Continuously evaluates the effectiveness of existing programs and implements improvements or new initiatives as needed.

  • Collaborates with faculty to meet the academic needs of students.

  • Serves as a liaison between the Academic Learning Center and faculty to ensure alignment with academic requirements and provide tailored support.

  • Develops rapport with faculty, departments, and any other collaborators on campus.

  • Implements a data management process to maintain accurate and confidential records.

  • Utilizes student success technology platforms to identify high priority student groups and outreach to offer services.

  • Conducts program assessment for the Academic Learning Center.

  • Prepares progress reports by collecting, compiling, consolidating and reconciling data related to tutoring activities.

  • Supports the Student Academic Success Center by engaging in persistence and retention initiatives.

  • Engages in outreach activities to promote the Center on campus to include giving presentations, classroom visits, pre-college programming, and faculty-led initiatives.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.

  • Six years of related experience in an educational setting.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong organization and time management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation applications.

  • Proficiency in using technology to streamline operations and reporting.

  • Strong leadership skills as demonstrated in the ability to encourage satisfactory performance and growth in supervised staff.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills to foster productive partnerships with faculty, staff, and students
