Job Description

The Department of Biological Sciences at Prairie View A&M University invites applications for an adjunct faculty position, starting in Fall 2024. We are seeking a part-time faculty member committed to excellence in undergraduate science education. The adjunct professor will teach both lecture and laboratory biology courses at the undergraduate college level. The ideal candidate will have expertise in teaching courses related to Anatomy and Physiology. Teaching responsibilities based upon the applicant's background and expertise in introductory anatomy and physiology level courses with laboratories.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach Microbiology or other related courses to major and non-major students.

  • Commitment to the pursuit of excellence in teaching.

  • Maintain regular office hours.

  • Meet with and advise students either before or after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods.

  • Evaluate students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and informs students in a timely manner of their progress.

  • Ability to fulfill assessment requirements according to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accreditation standards.

  • Perform other teaching duties as assigned.

  • Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.

  • Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required.

  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Doctorate (Ph.D., PharmD, M.D., O.D., or D.V.M.) in relevant areas of Biology.

  • Prior teaching experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • 2+ year of experiences in teaching anatomy and physiology at the undergraduate college level.

  • 2 + years of experience in preparation and implementation of teaching laboratories.

  • 2 + years expertise in instructional technology and experience in course learning management systems .
