Project Overview:

Bechtel’s focus on renewables and clean energy is helping our customers deliver transformational renewables and clean energy projects. Bechtel renewables team will perform the project management, engineering, procurement, and construction for a 218MWac / 271MWdc utility-scale solar photovoltaic (“PV”) generating plant to be located in Victoria, Texas.

Job Summary:

The Electrical Field Engineer is responsible for overseeing operations within the applicable discipline. Supports the Project Field Engineer, Superintendents, craft, and others, as assigned. Ensures assigned construction operations and contractors’ performance are in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budgets. Reports to Project Field Engineer for daily scheduled work priorities, coordination between other disciplines and assigned specific tasks.

Major Responsibilities:

Work Planning & Packaging

  • Prepares construction drawings and sketches.

  • Facilitates planning construction methods and procedures.

  • Support the superintendent in preparation and implementation of the 3-week look-ahead and four-week rolling schedule and budget control with support from Project Controls.

  • Coordinate with other discipline superintendents and field engineers for interface coordination of construction work activities and plans.

Material Management

  • Initiates requisitions for field purchases

  • Prepares quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment.

Quantities

  • Verifies commodities and leads the quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems as required.

Safety / Quality Control

  • Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.

  • Lead in process quality verifications during construction phase over respective discipline using GIS software and Smart Completions/Setroute in addition through system turnover.

  • Provides senior leadership for environmental, safety, health, injury/accident and fire prevention on the project. This includes safety orientation, preparation of safety procedures and leading direct hire safety meetings. Inspect building and area for unsafe conditions, behaviors and practices and take appropriate corrective action to mitigate and eliminate.

  • Ensure the applicable document for electrical commodities such as PV panels, above ground DC cable management system, DC cable, and terminations are provided to direct hire craft personnel to complete work, and that all changes are approved prior to implementation.

Technical

  • Proactively considers continuous learning or show interest to pursue appropriate learning activities

  • Responsible for implementing corporate project policies, procedures and instructions within assigned electrical work activities or applicable project specific policies and procedures.

For Direct Hire

  • Develops firm understanding of system and area scoping and drawings required for package development.

  • Completing final system walk-downs, deficiency tracking, and close-out.

STR / Subcontract Coordinator

  • Reviews and approves inspection test plans,

  • Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Required bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must be physically capable to conduct field inspections and participate in project walkdowns which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, walking on uneven surfaces.

  • intermediate knowledge of EPC and EPCM construction programs, technologies, means and methods.

  • Intermediate knowledge of supervisory functions relating to construction field activities.

  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) and commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.

  • Prior SetRoute/Smart Completions experience an asset.

  • Intermediate knowledge of electrical commodity and equipment installation including: cable pulling, terminations, and underground direct bury cable installation.

  • Prior GIS experience an asset.
