O'Connell Electric Company Electrical Engineer Intern in Victor, New York

This internship is hiring for Summer 2025.Engineering interns work alongside electrical engineers and project management personnel to support the company’s Technical Services Division in delivering a comprehensive suite of services for our customers. Students will be exposed to both an office and field work environment within utility substations, non-utility electrical rooms and substations, wind farm facilities, solar generation facilities, municipal water and sewer treatment plants, along with other electrical construction environments. Field work will be conducted under the supervision of engineering and electrical technician personnel.Internships at O’Connell Electric offer students great opportunities to incorporate classroom learning into professional, real world situations.Typical activities throughout an internship include, but are not limited to:Attending project meetingsPreparing project documentation including drawings, test sheets, schedules, etc.Conducting site visits with assigned supervisorGaining hands on field experience by participating in testing and commissioning tasks including:Lift/land logs and assisting electricians in wiring changesRelay testingCommunication and automation testingField engineering drawingsDrawing markupsAssisting teams with apparatus testingGeneral troubleshootingCreating data collection, one lines for field teamsCreating electrical models for engineering studiesAssisting with creating engineering reportsAnalyzing electrical waveforms and COMTRADE files for post event analysisAssisting engineering team with troubleshooting and emergency calls Education Requirements and Key Competencies for Success:Current student as a sophomore - graduate level studies actively enrolled in an engineering or related undergraduate or graduate programA desire to work in, or explore the field of electrical engineeringShould have completed some relevant coursework that can be applied to experiential learning during an internshipStrong technical writing, analytical and communication skillsDetail-oriented with a strong emphasis on quality work deliverablesStrong work ethic and a high level of integrityCompensation:The minimum and maximum annual salary (or hourly rates) that O’Connell Electric Company, Inc. believes in good faith to be accurate for this position at the time of this posting are $19.00 to $21.00 per hour.It is important to O’Connell Electric that potential candidates for this position understand that compensation depends on numerous factors including the geographic location where the role will be performed, skills required, experience, complexity, travel, and market rate.
