Pay Range: $100,000 - $125,000/yr

The Automation Controls Application Engineer II is responsible for reviewing customer specifications to develop cost-effective solutions, specifying hardware and setups for vision applications, and determining appropriate PLC models. Responsibilities include maintaining the costing library, adhering to global safety standards, and ensuring all equipment meets company and customer specifications. Additionally, the position requires collaboration with other departments to ensure accuracy and alignment with PMD's capabilities and practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Review customer specifications to develop solutions using available hardware and costing.

  • Specify hardware and setup solutions for vision applications.

  • Determine the appropriate PLC models and manufacturers.

  • Identify electrical hardware to meet project requirements.

  • Choose pneumatic and hydraulic systems based on customer or PMD specifications.

  • Maintain the costing library for electrical hardware used in the automation industry.

  • Adhere to global safety standards.

  • Ensure robots meet PMD and customer specifications.

  • Adhere to the quoting process defined by the applications department.

  • Mentor other engineers in the applications department on electrical standards.

  • Review vendor quotes and PMD quotations for accuracy.

  • Present PMD's machine control solutions to prospective customers.

  • Review machine concepts to ensure they meet safety requirements.

  • Collaborate with the PMD shop and controls engineering department to ensure quotes align with PMD's capabilities and standard practices.

  • Observe safety procedures.

  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.

  • Any other task assigned by management within scope of position, federal and state regulations

    Position Requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical/mechatronics engineering or related engineering field.

  • Five years or more of automation machine design.

  • Solid working knowledge of assembly and test automation industries.

  • Ten years or more working with automation equipment (PLC, Robot, Servo, and machine vision programming).

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Proficient with AutoCAD or DraftSight

  • Knowledge of worldwide electrical and safety standards.

  • Familiar with leak testing, machine building, mechanical aptitude, and generating costs of automation equipment a plus.

  • Writing code in I.E., C#, C++, Python, Dot Net, and VBA a plus.

  • Internal Candidates: An employee can meet the minimum requirements by having (1) held the Automation Controls Applications Engineer I position for three years or (2) having held a software programming position in the Controls Engineering Department at PMD for three years, or (3) having held an equivalent position at another machine automation company for five years.

Pay Range $85,000 - $110,000/yr
