The Collegiate Science & Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) and Science & Technology Entry Program (STEP) at Binghamton University are funded by the New York State Education Department to increase the number of students from under-represented groups who are pursuing professional licensure and careers in mathematics, science, technology, and health-related fields. The CSTEP and STEP grant focus on preparing students for postsecondary educational opportunities and careers in licensed professions. Eligible participants are New York state residents from African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, or Alaskan native backgrounds and/or economically disadvantaged.

The Project Coordinator is an administrator, student advisor, and instructor and reports to the Project Directors. The position is split 50% CSTEP and 50% STEP. The approximate time allocation is 45% administration, 35% mentoring/advising, and 20% instruction/teaching. This is a full-time calendar year position.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruits and selects program participants.

  • Plans all program functions designed to prepare participants for professional licensure and careers in mathematics, science, technology, and health-related fields.

  • Conducts academic and career advising sessions with individual participants and identifies appropriate support services.

  • Assists participants with securing admission to and financial assistance for enrollment in college (STEP) and graduate programs (CSTEP).

  • Collects and evaluates data on program participants and program performance, including maintaining information on participant needs and progress.

  • Compiles data for midterm and final performance reports.

  • Accompanied participants to two to four conferences per year.

  • Leads organizational meetings and chairs the advisory board committees.

  • Coordinates workshops on various topics as needed and co-instructs a two-credit college course for CSTEP students.

  • Serves as editor for the program newsletter, web page, and other social media.

  • Supervises a STEP Academic Counselor and two Graduate Assistants.

  • Organizes the STEP-Parents' Advisory Committee, which meets three times a semester, and the CSTEP Advisory Committee, which meets once each semester.

  • Expect to work some weekends and overnights to participate in field trips, college tours, conferences, and Saturday workshops.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Progress toward a Master's Degree in any field.

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.

  • Reliable transportation.

  • Experience advising or teaching students.

  • Strong organizational, oral, written, social media, and computer skills.

  • Self-motivated and able to exercise independent judgment.

  • Administrative experience preferred (especially in externally funded grant program administration and reporting).

    Additional Information:

Salary: $60,000 full-time, 12-month position.
