Battery-NY is a new lithium battery technology development and prototyping center in New York's Southern Tier. Funded by the U.S. Economic Development Administration and NYS Empire State Development, Battery-NY is led by Binghamton University's Distinguished Professor M. Stanley Whittingham, 2019 Nobel Laureate inventor of the Li-ion battery. Battery-NY will build on existing strengths within New York State while advancing the development and enabling the scale-up and advanced manufacturing of batteries for various sectors including transportation, military, and energy, and will establish a robust manufacturing infrastructure that will advance the region by supporting multiple industries and their supply chains.

A first-in-class facility in the United States, Battery-NY will offer companies the latest technologies for the design and manufacture of batteries, as well as in-place pilot production, scale-up, and manufacturing capabilities that can be accessed without capital investment.

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Facilities Manager to oversee the operations and maintenance of our battery development and prototyping facility. As the successful candidate, you'll report directly to the Executive Director for Battery-NY while collaborating closely with the University's Facilities Management team. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure a smooth startup, with the facility operating efficiently, safely, and fully compliant with all regulations. Key Responsibilities:

  • Facility Construction: Actively participate in the design and specification of the facility, from initial concept stage through build and final acceptance.

  • Project Management: Oversee facility-related projects, including expansions, upgrades, and new installations. Coordinate with contractors and suppliers to ensure timely and within-budget completion.

  • Facility Operations: Support the day-to-day operations of the facility, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.

  • Maintenance Management: Develop and implement maintenance schedules for all facility equipment and systems to minimize downtime and ensure reliability.

  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure that all facility operations comply with safety regulations and environmental standards. Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.

  • Energy Management: Develop and implement strategies to optimize energy usage and reduce the facility's carbon footprint.

  • Budget Management: Prepare and manage the facility's budget, ensuring cost-effective operations and maintenance.

  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage facility technicians and support staff. Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team performance.

  • Emergency Response: Develop and implement emergency response plans to address potential facility issues and ensure business continuity.

    Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, or a related field with 3+ years' experience in facilities management and startup, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Strong knowledge of facility systems, including HVAC, electrical, natural gas, plumbing, fire suppression (ATEX), BMS, manufacturing, and safety systems.

  • Excellent project, contract management and organizational skills.

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.

  • Hold an OSHA-40 certification or a similar safety certification, along with a robust understanding of safety regulations and best practices.

  • Proficient in using Six Sigma methodologies with the ability to analyze data and generate reports to inform decision-making.

Preferred:

  • Experience in the battery manufacturing industry (electrode, cell assembly, FA&T).

  • Familiarity with applicable New York State regulatory requirements.

  • Certification in Facilities Management (CFM) or similar credentials.

  • Proficiency in facility management software and tools.

    Additional Information:

Salary: $115,000 - $135,000 annually.
